Going to see a new doctor this morning

Going to see a new doctor this morning - 04/16/25 01:20 PM
Real tired of my old PCP office. Terrible communication and very dirty place. Just a checkup but I’m going to see if he will order me a work up for my back. Certain I have a slipped disc.
Work wants to know when I’ll be in
When I’m good and ready
That’s when

Loved the new doctor. He spent 40 min with me and ordered an x ray, nerve conduction test and physical therapy

According to Mayo Clinic surgery is a last resort for back pain. Try many other remedies first.
My brother had back surgery and wished afterwards he never had it.

My wife worked for and retired from Mayo. They’ve told her surgery is the last option. Right now she’s following all their recommendations which include exercise, acupuncture, massage, chiropractor, TENS stimulation and periodic corticosteroid injections. The pain level without all of this is 7 of 10. With everything other than corticosteroid injections is about 5 of 10. The injections bring it down to 2-3 out of 10. Mayo says when the injections stop working, they’ll do surgery.

I'm lucky in that I can drop 40 bucks on a chiropractor ever few months and he keeps my back pain down enough to sleep at night.

Trying to work it around my schedule. Management made sure they said “oh therapy didn’t help me at all”
Because they don’t want me missing any work

My wife fired the last one, the last 2 kids at home had that doctor since they were little. All the doctor wanted to do was spend the entire appointment belittling you for not falling instep and taking every Covid and influenza vaccine ever created. We told her where she could shove that needle and now have a new doctor who asks the question and then moves on with no comments.

Get a GOOD SOLID diagnosis before you even dare do surgery. I had debilitating back problems for most of my life, even though i worked out hard. I literally fixed it in a few weeks with lower back extensions at the gym. Do not take meds and do not listen to anyone who takes meds, until you have tried fitness. DO NOT TAKE MEDS!

Ouch!
I don’t know what is wrong yet but this is different from the muscle injury I had 8 years ago. Just turning from side to side while I’m trying to sleep is excruciating and getting up out of bed is a chore. A brisk step down off a curb about made me pass out

About all the doctors here have sold out to the big health companies and are now just employees, they're told how to practice, how long to spend with patients and who to refer too.
Pretty hard to find one that will buck the system, or even have an original thought.

I had a laminectomy four years ago which rid me of constant lower back pain. Dr. said surgery would be 85% success rate. I took the gamble and won.

Have you had a diagnosis of what's causing your pain?
My wife had severe back pain that ran down her leg. She was diagnosed with a sciatic nerve problem. They gave her an epidural shot and she's pain free for almost a year now. They told her if the pain returns they can give her another epidural.

My wife had an Xray and it didn't show anything wrong with her back. She then had an MRI which showed the sciatic nerve problem. That doesn't show up on an Xray from what I understand.

They won’t do MRI until I finish with PT and then if it’s no better. Insurance is a racket
