Just got 100 thousand acre hunting estate - 04/17/25 02:32 AM

So the State of Washington just condemned a 103 year old bridge that is the only public access into an area of over 100,000 acres of timberland and public land.
We have a few hundred acres in the middle of this area, along with a deeded easement from Weyerhaeuser across private roads that connect with now closed public roads that access our property.
The State even closed the bridge to bicycles and pedestrians. Of course this is all punitive, in an effort to get the citizens to support higher taxes.
Yes, I am gloating a little.

Lucky you now if the same would happen to the Bridges leading into the Methow

are you sure its punitive? that arch supports the whole thing and there is rust at the base of the uprights going to the the roadway. 103 years in washington high humidity could easy erode structural safety

Careful what you gloat about...

Difficult access means wildland firefighters and such can't get there easy either.

Would be a shame if the state could no longer afford to manage that land and then sold it off to the highest bidder. Your public land “estate” would be gone.

100 thousand acres is a lot for one man to cover, let me know when I need to be there to help.

Three different gates on 15 miles of private timberland before then getting back on public road through USFS land.
It takes a little longer but the drive is nice.

The reason the bridge is in bad shape is due to deferred maintenance. The State hasn't put a gallon of paint on it in 50 years. They use all the gas tax money on bike lanes, high speed rail, and transit. And the environmentalists have been pushing for 30 years to "re-wild" this area.

Sounds like a nice refuge for woolly mammoth, extinct wolves and maybe a dinosaur or two.

It's really a shame to see historic structures that played a big part in building America disappear.
I found this short history video of the bridge and area for any bridge/history fanatics on here.

I would assume that fire fighters would access the land via the same private roads that Waggler is allowed to use.

Wouldn’t the state or feds have to maintain it since is a registered national landmark?
