Fly fishing setup

I am looking at a Redington Wrangler Pond fly fish setup that is in the 250.00 range. what experience do you fly fisher men and women have or know about this brand?? I am looking for a 3wt but the 4wt is the smallest they have. Keep in mind, I just started fly fishing about the end of February, so I am very new to this and inexperienced to say the least. I am looking for something to mess with blue gill and crappie and these small red eye rock bass in our local creeks. The more experienced I get the better the equipment will get.

IMO, having fished for over 30 yrs and guided a bunch, Redington products are the worst. I probably have close to 20 rod and reels and Redington has given me the most problems. I had a prodeal at one time and got a few combos for me and my wife. Got a predator and grande set up i have since replaced. Wifes vice rod had cracked ferrules. Had a behemoth reel blow up on me on a bonefish. Grande reel handle seezed up. I just got my 3yr old and echo gecko. The reel is cheap but the rod seems well made. I would check out echo, tfo, for cheaper ones. My sage rods have never let me down. Lamson reels are the best budget reels

Around here there are several fly fishing shops that will let you take a rig out to the parking lot to fly the line to see how you like it, might ask around your area.

I will be in Branson MO later this week. I will be hitting up as many fly fishing dealer as I can find. I will avoid the brand noted. Orvis will be my next choice. even if I have to spend more money, buy once and cry once.

Echo’s are nice rods as stated


For the fishing you mentioned,,,,a Redington rod/reel combo would be fine imho

If you’re going saltwater fishing/steelhead-salmon/Alaska trout fishing,,,,probably not a good idea

They are near the bottom, so you’ll have lots of room to spend more when you fish for different fish
