PBS sacked!! - 08/02/25 01:02 AM

Just read that Public broadcasting service is gone.
Congress said no more money.
What drove the nail in the coffin was the political bias from what I read..
Which is true…the far left and its ideology was running rampant…
I’m also a little saddened… there was some really good programming on there.
But it’s not quite how it used to be.

There used to be very good programming on there. Not ashamed to admit I watched it a lot years ago.

But it has changed. Go woke , go broke.

Sorry to see it go , but I would only want it back if it was like it used to be as it was years ago.

It’s not gone. Taxpayers aren’t paying for it.

This was probably the best thing from PBS.

The company that "funds" PBS and NPR is shutting operations. They could probably keep going if they got advertising like the rest of the market.

I enjoy the science and history shows on PBS. It's good for the brain.

I was wrong. CPB did make that announcement. NPR hasn’t so far.

All the company execs likely got rich from the "funds". They would be crazy and keep PBS and NPR operating when they have to actually work for their "funds".

PBS like the History Channel went woke and is nothing but drama any more.
Nothing even smells like truth any more.

I never understood why we needed taxpayer funded television or radio in the first place. Those should all be private businesses.

Good capinellia (sp?) tune , SNIPERBBB.

Another favorite quote I've heard is -
" War teaches us geography "

Whenever there is a conflict in a far flung land , you look up where that is and what kind of place it is.

It was a kids game show that ran for several years on PBS and had a few reboots. It was our Jeopardy! back then.

I play that song fairly often whenever it pops in my head.

I like “Dakotalife”, little segments about towns in SD. Im sure other states have the same kind of thing. About all I watch anymore on PBS.

I enjoy a lot of science type programming that they provide. Sad to see it go.

Never watch their news broadcast but I do like many of their shows
Antique roadshow
This old house
Rick Steves Europe
Julie Childs old shows
And many others

Watching PBS right now. I wonder when/if it will quit broadcasting

Their fiscal year ends September 30th, that'd be my guess on shutting down.

I'll miss the cartoons in the morning with my daughter, she likes Kratt brothers while we wait for mom to wake up

Can't say I will miss it but being raised in the country that was not one of the 2-3 channels available

From what I know it was political biased so good riddance as far as I am concerned

No matter if it was government or private funded

Haven't they made enough off Sesame Street merch in the last 50 years to.fund it for the next 100?

My understanding is that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is the organization that receives federal money and distributes it to the various local PBS and NPR stations will begin shutting down in September, but will continue operations with a smaller staff to wrap things up through January.

As far as local PBS and NPR stations, I believe the majority of those will continue to operate even without the federal funding. They’ve always received funding from the public, whether it be private individuals or corporations. I’m reading those donations have increased in the past three months by around $120 million.

I don’t know what the programming will look like going forward, but I believe they will continue to operate.

If there is anything on PBS that people actually wanted to watch, it will be bought buy other networks. Let the people decide what content the want through the free market instead of forcing content the people don't want using my taxes.
Posted By: Lugnut

Re: PBS sacked!! - 08/02/25 10:57 AM

PBS news programs are completely one-sided, they lean hard left. And almost anything broadcast by NPR is woke.

But I enjoy many of the PBS documentaries and a lot of their other programming.

WeatherWorld, a 15 minute weather segment aired week nights on PBS, is the absolute best weather forecasting you can get in Pennsylvania. I will miss that if it goes away.

just kidding. Don't have TV or a computer.
Just my phone and a picture window. wink

Re: PBS sacked!! - 08/02/25 12:08 PM

Hopefully it continues to function in all its glory. Lots of great kids shows, science shows, local documentaries, etc. Even the little “political” or news stuff I watched seemed pretty straight forward fact stating without the blowhard over the top acting from CNN and FOX stuff! I hope now with the federal funding dropping they maintain their generally unbiased programming and don’t fall off the left or right cliff. Happy trapping! ScottW

PBS, Has a show for kids.

"Molly of Denali"

Probably the most PRO Trapping, hunting and fishing show for children I've ever seen.

Never have enough time for TV.
To me it is a waste that could be put to something productive.
So much so haven’t owned one in ten years.

Is this something I can find on YouTube if PBS goes away? Have a very young son and certainly want him consuming media that I agree with.

Edit: nevermind, tons of episodes on there.

I agree
Just wish I knew right where to find the reduction in my federal taxes. All the cuts in federal programs i don't know where to see that savings? Would love to look at my property taxes and not see the tec school portion on that. But that is a local or state thing feds cant help with. At least if it would go away I could see it is gone.
Oh well. I alway thought this old house, Red Green, and New Yankee Work Shop were pretty gay. So glad my Federal tax dollars no longer funding that.

There is absolutely no reason for taxpayers to have to fund this. They can make it on their own or go away.

You and I agree on public schools. I see PBS kind of like that--a form of public education. Investing in public education is good. Are schools and PBS perfect--no way. But we need an educated society.

Ken Burns documentaries are a great example. Anyone can watch one on PBS and walk away more educated on the subject.

Also, our local PBS station is great. I learned a lot about hunting and fishing as a kid watching Outdoor Oklahoma on OETA.

Announcement is a publicity stunt to generate more donations.

They're running a left wing liberal propaganda operation, with your tax dollars.

"generally unbiased" that's funny, and sad because the public in general is brainwashed.

As much as I sometimes enjoy PBS, I don't think they should be supported by tax dollars. Anyone who wants to keep them around is free to donate to them.

Re: PBS sacked!! - 08/02/25 02:18 PM

The CEO for one of those branches was on another network news show. She claimed she didn't know of any biased programs that they aired. The network she was on is a left wing propaganda machine also, so they just let her spew and went along with it.

The bias in the media in this country has to be eliminated.

Ken Burns is a raging democrat. How much credence can really be placed in the documentaries he makes?

They can go earn advertising dollars like everyone else in the free market. They already do! They play short, complimentary spots saying how wonderful a product or service is and how that company made this programming possible. THAT'S AN AD! All they have to do is get off their liberal rear ends and do more of that so they can pay their own way.

PBS isn't gone, maybe some reductions in stupidity.

PBS has plenty of private supporters and private trust donors. It may mean they will need to run a few more telethons to make up for the lost funding. If you like their programming, support them with your generous donation. It should never have been taxpayers, funding your entertainment.

I like some PBS shows and I do privately contribute to their programming.

With so many channels out there today I’m not sure how any channel makes a profit, you would think there’s only so many advertisers out there to pay the bills.

According to the Google PBS receives 15 percent of its funding from the gubbiment.

Cable and satellite subscriptions. Plus many shows have to pay the channel to get onto TV. Each channel offered gets a slice of your monthly subscription. ESPN gets something like 3 dollars per sub. Which is the highest urate if I remember. Most channels don't get a full dollar.

NPR recieves 1% from rhw CPA. Itis the funding for the small and many rural radio stations that will be impacted the most.
