Climbing stick for short people - 08/27/2506:17 AM
Well getting talked into getting some for safety and public land with this saddle but holy crap trying to find some that will fit is a pain. Smallest I see is a 20" but my step up , comfortably at least is like 13" and will probably be less when I throw on some layers so what's eveyone using for climbing sticks for mobile stuff ? Or better yet what everyone getting there kids .... Have a feeling imm have to get some square tubing and make some but diy is frowned upon now days and I can't see myself going though the hassle of SRT and all that to go up all. Of 15'

Ladders typically have 12" rung spacing. You can usually buy a 24' aluminum ladder at an estate auction for about $20.00. At a scrap yard you'll pay a little over a $1.00 a pound for an aluminum ladder. That's likely much cheaper than you can buy or make 15' of climbing stick.

SRT is pretty easy. Big thing for it is getting your presets out preseason. That way you're not trying to use a throw all in the dark. I will occasionally on an afternoon hunt carry my throwball with me when going to a new spot but it's easier to just 2TC then leave a preset behind. If you suck at throwing the ball, you can use an extension pole to get your throwball over the right limb.

20 ft us rule of thumb. If you can get into cover lower than that, so much the better. If you're in a tree that's practically a telephone pole with. I limbs, you might need to go 30-40...

Interesting only ever ground hunted so .... Like I've seen someone people like 40-50' up and I'm just like why Actually talked to one guy who hunts the national forest, said he likes being 50' ... Asked why and said with a 700 GR arrow he's shooting straight down and just though everything..... Idk about all that but hayyy
Re: Climbing stick for short people - 08/27/2510:19 PM
My most successful tree stand, when I used a tree stand was about 10', probably closer to 8, it was in a bushy white pine though... Usually just hunted on the ground, killed them fine and didn't have to climb a tree..lol

Some areas the deer are trained to look up. If you don't have any cover from limbs, you can get picked off if you don't get higher. Gotta watch when hunting near the tops of hills too. If you climb above the top of the hill Bd no cover, you skyline yourself to anything below the hill. Climbing too high ud not good for close in shots as you have no margin for erro.

Unfortunately most states on public ground you can't use spikes. Some landowners aren't fans of of them either if they are hoping to sell timber in the future.

Not much timber business around here and didn't realize that

Make yourself a platform. Put a cam cleat on it, use amsteel full burry from hang free saddle co. Buy some 1 inch strap material and make a 2 or 3 step aider. Use it as a 1 stick. My platform weighs less than 7 lbs. Put the platform on tree as high as u can get your foot in aider. Climb up on it. Put tether on. Hang from it and take platform off . Push yourself from tree, use tether rope to hold platform to tree letting u use both hands to reattach it. Climb back on platform. Its bo harder than putting sticks up and carrying a platform on your saddle up. And u don't have to carry all that crap around. Thsts why we saddle hunt. Buy yourself a figure 8 and rappel down.

If you learn to weld up some aluminum platforms, you will be a real popular guy. Welding your own sticks would be the route I would go. Get some lumium and weld to your size and weather.

Re: Climbing stick for short people - 08/29/2508:48 PM
Wolfdog you need to get some moon shoes! You’re prob a bit young to remember them from Nickelodeon. But you could prob bounce right up to where you needed to be!
Re: Climbing stick for short people - 08/30/2502:01 AM
I thought the character was pretty straightforward. He didnt like folks invading his home life and band members getting out of time during performances

Depends on the situation. As high as 30' and as low as 6' or wait for it sitting on the ground.
Some places its small thick stuff and on the ground you can't see anything and at 10' or above you also can't see much but 6' to 8' you have a few shot openings. Other places you may need an oxygen mask.
I went with a solid ladder when I bought my last one instead of the staggered climbing sticks just becuse i bought it for the kids when they warr small and wanted the steps closer for them.

…. He had a homosexual and a mentally retarted hand with violent tendencies coming around a whiny little kid ….also a woman that would sass mouth him … he was the the only sane sob around there
Re: Climbing stick for short people - 08/31/2504:35 PM
…. Put you a rope aider on the bottom one … that’ll put your second step at about eight feet … I pull that bottom one if I’m leaving a stand to hunt again in government woods … keeps lazy thieves from getting my set up and gets you higher with less weight ….. don’t know how’d that work with you being a pygmy though lol
Re: Climbing stick for short people - 08/31/2505:45 PM
Used to work with a short guy. He'd find a stump hole in the right spot, or dig a little pit, and brush around it and hunt from that. Did pretty well too. He was also afraid of heights. We hired him straight out of the Air Force, lol
