My understanding of the cause of the civil war was over cotton,, and money.
When the federal government noticed the cotton boom and how much money the southern states were taking in,, they decided to increase the cost out of the shipping ports… the south, response to this was to give the federal government the double barrel middle finger and send cotton to ports in Latin and South America.

The concept that spjones put out about "fix the money, fix the world" is a good idea. I think there is certainly a lot of truth to that, and it would do wonders to stabilize the world IMO.

I think what you found out was gold backed currency does not mean the government cannot create money out of thin air. They can't create more gold instantaneously, but they can change it's value with a stroke of a pen like FDR did.
