Preventative maintenance - 10/13/25 12:06 PM

Shots were brought up on a thread. One person mentioned weak immune systems with age. Any you folks use nutrition to keep healthy? Not just eating say a balanced diet, but eating specific foods for the benefit? I read one guy takes cod liver oil. What's your go to nutritional boost? I take D3 starting now till the spring when I get more sun. I eat a raw garlic glove a day now that I grow it. Olive oil and apple cider vinegar as often as I can.

My brother in law takes garlic cloves and sticks them in honey, let's it sit for a few days and then he eat a clove a day. Also swears by kabucha tea. Probably spelt that wrong but I couldn't get pass the taste to try that daily.

We cook with olive oil. Use garlic often. I think coffee is the reason I got lucky enough to get old.

Nutrition to the body is key to keep on the bright side of the grass. At 72 years of age I take calcium, magnesium, vitamin D,K,B plus Folic Acid to help to counteract the Methotrexate I take for RA. Drink coffee from sunrise to sunset - and anytime between. Figure if Marvel Mystery Oil has kept my old Jeep CJ5 flathead purring and Sea-Foam in my 2-stroke outboards a-puffing blue sweet smelling smoke then the human body should benefit with the same preventive maintenance with natural supplements and good home cooked food.

There was a thread going back a long time ago. It's been brought forward a few times. I think Sharon may have started it. It's about a super tonic which people use to enhance their immune system. I made a batch but I just couldn't keep using it. It's pretty stout. Maybe look for that. It might be something you can use.

Take a multi-vitamin, NAC, Quercetin, zinc, D3, Vitamin C, and fish oil. NAC & Quercetin is to support your immune system. Also drink Hibiscus tea every day. Plus, go to the health club 4 or 5 days a week to lift weights and do 25 minutes of cardio. Eat lots of veggies, fish, chicken, and red meat. In my 80s and my BP averages around 120/80.

I've been TRYING to eat better, after decades of not.
FWIW, my Dad made it into his 90s, smoked since he was 12, popped first beer by 0700, and deep fried everything.
I think genetics plays the biggest part.
At least I hope, lol

I exercise daily whether it's weights, cardio or both. I try and focus on strength, but also have started focusing a lot more on rehab type exercises to keep my joints healthy.
