Anybody make up snares specifically for wolverine? If so would love some ideas!

I don't know that what we are doing is the best way, but it works. 6ft of #9 pigtailed, to just enough 3/32 to form a 10 inch loop, along with having a kill spring on them.

Multiple swivels never hurts...

use 1x19 3/32, add swivels and anchor up high. Body grips would be a great trap if you are able to use them, I use 280s and 330s. 280s i have neck catches every time. 330s I will get them both on the neck and body. Make a pole set like for marten, they will climb to get to the bait.

I've always used an 8 in. loop 8 in. off the ground, pole, etc!

I haven't tried snares for wolverine, only 330s. But lugging in all the supplies (setters, axe, branch cutters, impact drill for lag bolt anchors, maybe a sawsall) and two 330s is a bear to pack. So I see the benefit of snares.

What is the consensus for trap checking frequency? I check 1 week after setting, then 3-4 days after, but work makes me stir crazy and I am thinking maybe there isn't a need to wait a week.

I've probably snared as many wolverine as I've caught in traps. Only ever lost one and that was in an old 1/8 wolf snare that wasn't even set for wolverine. I have made snares specifically for wolverine, but anymore I only use one snare for everything. I make everything out of 5/64, 8 to 12 feet long. I can always reach something solid, and I can adjust the loop for lynx, wolverine or wolves. I've never used a swivel on any snare and I've only ever lost that one wolverine. I do like the Stinger kill springs, but have caught a lot of fur without them. My favourite wolverine set is on a pole or a blind snare set in their tracks.

Sobie2 wow you pack a lot of gear! What in the world are you using lag bolt anchors for? Why can't the axe cut branches?? Whats the sawsall for? Use the setters before you head out, that will lighten the load a bit!

I ordered Thompson beaver snares. I could not catch any beaver with them so I set them for wolverine. I cought 2 killed them stone dead. Really good wolverine snare. And they are the snares Charlie Wright Yukon man uses so

Wowsers. The tools you are carrying in are crazy heavy and frankly unnecessary.

Yeah I am normally a boat trapper and used to bringing everything! I ditched the sawzall... it makes for easy work for pole sets. But this time around nature provided me with 4 natural cubbies, and Home Depot provided me with a double milk crate set. I just hate hiking in a long ways and up some steep stuff only to wish I had brought another tool.

Keep your ax sharp and it will do everything you need, except drive lag bolts. Works fine for driving nails if you need, tho.

If you were using lags to anchor poles, I usually just use rope or 11ga. wire. I have also used spikes and the back side of a hatchet.
I boat trap, and will admit to a cordless sawzall. My wolverine cubbies tend to end up more like condos.

Old telephone wire works well ! Stays flexible even at low temps and you can move the pole higher if need be as the snow gets deeper.
