Way tougher than me - 10/10/18 02:51 AM

I am just about finished with about 8 cords.I live in luxury compared to the folks in the past.I have a good Stihl saw ,gas splitter, and pickup, miles of roads open for the summer plus lots of dead lodgepole. I am fast turning into a wuss or I would be enjoying this and already have it done !Some time back I posted about Joe Cosley who died on his line in Saskatchewan supposedly from scurvy at about 70 years old (In the 1940s I think )I think I would have froze first ! God rest his soul and here's hoping you guys up in the dark got a good jag of wood cut ! smith

Yeah.....wood...lol Got a love/hate relationship with wood now after 64yrs, 1 heart attack, chemo, bad back, just old and tired, etc., etc. With that said tho…..I cut timber from redwood in N.Cal to spruce on Chicagof Is. (sp?) and all parts in between for 16yrs so I got sawdust in my blood. The only "cure" for that is to make more sawdust? I also heat entirely with wood and split by hand (for the exercise) and burn about 6 cord/yr. I Love going out for wood and being out in the brush but the body isn't too hot on it anymore. All you can do is keep on going "until the *&^%$ wheels fall off!" Love it but body doesn't....lol PS.... Love that dead lodgepole also!!!!! Took this last week while up getting a load...GREAT day!!!!! Keep at it until you can't....

Reminds me of a favorite Far Side cartoon: Two loggers eating sandwiches on a stump, nothing in sight but stumps. One logger says to the other, "Ya know, the woods just calls to me", or something like that.

I used to tell my hunting clients in GMU 26, that the North Slope was just one big clearcut.

And that it wasn't like that when I first arrived up there with a chainsaw!
