Taser guns for bears

Taser guns for bears - 01/30/19 01:37 AM

Begin from Iowa I’ve no personal experience with bears but between here and reading other websites. From what I’ve gathered the best is a shotgun with buckshot and slugs alternating, second would be a 44 mag with bear loads from buffalo bore, I think that’s who makes it, and I’ve read where DNR officers have used tasers with success and wondered if it would be a good “last resort” option?

As far as I know, that is illegal for a citizen to use on any wildlife, in Alaska.
In my personal opinion, a taser would be a very poor choice, anyway.

Thank you, like I said something I read and I’m always looking to prove things, and sometimes it gets me into trouble.

If you are close enough to an angry bear to use a taser, you are already too late.

Yeah as my mind gets traction I remembered why I started this research, it was posted on here about a guide who got killed and the hunter only had minor injuries and something about a gun been thrown to try and save his life. My thought was maybe if he had one it might have saved his life or maybe not, I have seen holestien bulls go nuts and I know it’s not same but the only way I saved my fathers life was shooting one and I’ve been thrown over fences by them, and there is times nothing will stop animals except termination.

You've got to ask yourself one question..."Do I feel lucky?"

By the point in time I’m talking about my luck ran out when the shotgun ran out of shells.

I would have little interest in relying on a taser to stop a bear. However, as a point of interest - they can be effective for certain situations. For instance, an Alaskan Hatchery had numerous close calls with bears. At the peak of certain fish runs, up to 50 bears were making it unsafe to conduct egg take operations. F+G experimented with tasing for several years. It became so successful that they permitted the Hatchery Manager to tase on his own ( normally illegal ). When word spread, F+G received demonstration requests from all over the Globe. Basically, the bear turns to Jello when tased. When he regains his mobility, he walks off and usually stays away from the area for a time. If he returns, he gives the immediate area a wide berth. Keeping the bear away from the weir and egg take area is all the bio's were looking for i.e. a safer work area. Appears to fill their specific need.

Ok that must have been what I read then I knew somebody on here would have read it or at least figure out what I’m talking about. I have a problem with describing things though writing. So thank you for putting up with a Iowa farmer.

This bear would be small as far as brown bear go. It's an interior grizzly, an eight footer. It measured nine feet from claw-to-claw. Put a tape measure on the floor to see what that looks like. A big brown bear would dwarf it.

Forgot to note that the Hatchery in question was dealing exclusively with Brown bears.

I do know there’s a difference but I think all those grizzly type bears are just dang big.
