Tuktoyaktuk - 06/24/19 11:38 PM

I知 getting excited for my trip up to Tuktoyaktuk next week. Might swing into Alaska if time allows. But first going to attend the Alberta trappers associations rendezvous. For those that live up that way anything I must check out?

See you at the Alberta convention.
I was in Tuk 40 years ago during the natural gas development era. Much has changed

Ask if anybody has dry fish for sale near the Mackenzie river ferry crossing at Tsiigehtchic. Use a bit of salt and it痴 delicious. There痴 usually some to be found and the deckhands might point you in the right direction. Alestine痴 here in inuvik has some good dishes made with locally caught whitefish. Check out all the craft shops for some fur crafts and other cool stuff. Other than that just enjoy the views and carry bug spray.

You don't want to go to Tuk, come to Aklavik and help me build my berry picking shack out on the coast. Maybe Ryan will even drop you off in AK you can visit with his grampa and hear lots of stories, and buy some Wally sticks before heading out to build. Free Trapperman.com labor, greatest thing ever.

Wifi is not free up here. You sure you do not want to be the first proponent of the Tman in the Arctic labor program.

Take some extra truck tires cause the blasted rock really slashes a few rim edges from the people I know that have taken the trip.

Good to have meet you at the Alberta trappers event. I could not believe how many 5th wheels trailers are on the Alaska Highway, at one time a count over 10 miles came that there was 6 per miles or , one every 10 seconds.
When is the utube clip coming out of your travels?

Re: Tuktoyaktuk - 07/05/19 02:32 PM

Good Morning this will date me but I as a young fella was on the ALCan in 1970 going to Fairbanks back then it was as if it was a airstream convention that was about the only camper you seen you wanted to get a early start so you were out ahead of them or you ate a lot of dust.

I'm wondering where the pictures are from the convention ?

Wolfcrazy is travelling so his internet is based on how many Tim Hortons coffee shops he stops in.
My trapping partner of 50 years only did video clips, and the ones of the "ladies beaver toss" would get me banned from this site. My camera stayed home

wolfcrazy-I would be very interested in seeing any photos or videos of Tuktoyaktuk you can post up here. Seeing the Arctic Ocean is one of the things on my bucket list and a trip there is probably in my future. Hope you are having a great trip!

Back in the mid-80s I did a short bit of polar bear work out of Tuk. Back then, it was a real neat place, with the native population still wearing traditional garments and keeping with the old ways. Saw a couple of older gals wearing wolverine parkys in the little grocery store that were fabulous works of art. Even played tourist a bit and bought a hoodie from the University of Tuktoyaktuk (TUK-U). To my way of thinking, too bad there's an all-weather road now into there. I'll bet the traditions are waning...

We had a good trip it seemed like we rushed but we seen what we wanted to. Being home I kinda wish we spent a couple more days in tuk and Inuvik. But what beautiful country and friendly communities. Who knows might make another trip in the future. I値l be working on some videos of our trip.

That is a quite a outstanding video of the speed skinning at the Alberta Convention that you have done. With so many participants to be able to get Justin in the picture, and poor AJ (coyboy hat) had a coyote that did not want to give up it's hide.
