The fleas will leave a frozen animal out on the trapline. Some can come back to life after being frozen for a couple days then thawed if they stay on the animal. After being frozen for 10 days or a couple weeks for sure there will be none.
Most trappers here working lines leave frozen animals hanging in a woodshed for a week or two, then thaw and skin a bunch at a time.
Land fur caught in the fall I always spray with raid and let hang in the shed for a couple days by a back foot.Animals always skin better after hanging a couple days.
Exactly need to leave hung in shed for 10 days to be sure - a couple of days and like they can come back to life. And the stuff in the fall spray with Raid especially around the the rear end and put in a tied off garbage bag overnight. U don't need a lot of Raid if the bag is tied off.
Seems like lynx and rabbits are the worst. Funny thing years ago like the rabbits never had them - can not figure that as they must have but did not bother us.
Trapped up in Northern Ontario one fall to almost Christmas and we got over a hundred marten, and a bunch of other fur, but the marten fleas only got on me and not the other 2 guys in camp.
