Alaska Trappers Association Fur Auction Cancellati

Alaska Trappers Association Fur Auction Cancellati - 03/14/20 08:12 PM

It is with a sad heart that I bring this to you. With the current events happening around the state and around the world, we have decided to cancel the annual ATA Fur Auction at the Open North American Championship dog races next weekend. The Alaska Dog Mushers Association is actively discouraging the public from attending the event and that will put a big damper on our event as well. The fur auction and The Fling are ATA’s biggest money makers of the year. Cancellation of these events will hurt our organization financially. In addition, I feel sorry for the trappers who depend on this auction to sell their furs, hides and antlers. I am also very sorry for our faithful local fur and antler buyers who purchase furs and antlers from our members year after year supporting the ATA. We have discussed organizing a small gathering to allow the buyers to purchase the furs for the minimums. While this would sell some furs, I don’t feel this would be fair to the trappers to get the most for their catch. An on-line auction was proposed as well, but something of that nature just doesn’t happen over night. We will look at future options and keep you all informed. Trappers have dealt with trials and tribulations for as long as we’ve been around and will continue to overcome these bumps as long as we stick together.

Sincerely

JR Pederson
Fur Auction Chairman

Unfortunate news indeed, though a necessary protection for all .

The bump in the road is temporary, and will pass.

This great event will come back as big as ever next time.

Thank you , JR , for keeping everyone informed....

You bet Sharon and thank you for your donation to our annual Spring Fling. I had both of them matted and framed. Mine is hanging in my kitchen and the other we will hold on to for next year's Fling. Thank you again for this an your amazing abilities to bring life into a pencil sketch. [Linked Image]

That's sad news indeed JR but it's better to be safe than sorry . Our hospital in town is on lock down and a good part of my employment has been put on hold darn entertainment industry anyway .

As always Sharon your talent is beyond words and the print JR has is one of my favorites !

JR, that framing is perfect for that image.

An artist's saying is that a frame can make or break an image...it is that important.

Yours is just right in complimenting that art. I'm delighted that it will grace your home decor along with all the other things you've made , that makes your home a reflection of you.

Thank you Allan, I was so happy to get permission to do that portrait . That was JR's own wuff that he caught . If not for those photos that JR took, that art would not exist.

Well JR, the other print now is all ready for next year's auction , despite the temporary hold up this time.

Sad to hear JR. I am not surprised after learning of RZ’s trip to the capital being cancelled along with all the rest of the measures being put in place, on the Fed, State, and Local level.

Life goes on.....

Wow.

What a difference a week has made. In hindsight we were very lucky to have pulled-off the ANC Fur Rendezvous fur auctions. Checks were mailed last Friday.

Thank you to all who participated!

Yes, thanks to all who were involved in that sale, I heard it went pretty well.

JR, I imagine that whatever fur we had that was left from Anchorage sale could be picked up at the Tannery?

Yes it went well. Things were off a bit probably due to colder, cloudy weather, the stock market dipsy doodles the week prior, etc etc who knows. But again very fortunately, we had managed to pick up a 3rd day to sell this year, instead of 2, and that turned out to be a life saver-made a huge difference. Without the 3rd day it would have been kinda glum I think.

I am not sure that the unsold furs have made it back to FB yet. A lot of times it goes up with somebody going to the Fling.

True that Pete. Lots of stories about trappers healthy as a horse out on the line all winter only to come to town and catch a bug.

I am so glad you do, martenpine.

My salute goes to JR , for his amazing photo of his beauty of a wuff.

I always like to say, if it wasn't for photographers , artists wouldn't have a leg to stand on , for precise anatomy reference . All artists need them. Some exceptions apply, as in the case of an artist knowing so well their subject, as to be able to draw it from sheer memory , seeing it in 3D in movement , in their mind. Horses are that for me, having been riding them, training, racing, from when I could first climb up into the saddle as a wee lass . Even so, in certain unique angles, I still need muscle/tendon reference .

Many thanks, martenpine, and always, JR .

May all be safe , and happiness attained.
