When does the ice usually melt off on the ponds and lakes for fishing in Alaska ?

Some places in Alaska seldom or never freeze, other places are frozen over from sometime in September until sometime in June.

Whenever a Texan is fixing to get a bit uppity about "big" this and that, I remind him that we could subdivide Alaska.

Which would make Texas the THIRD LARGEST state!

But to Canvasback's original question..... Here in the Interior, ponds and lakes are normally ice free enough to fish by mid-May.

Here in the northern Manitoba ice off is anywhere from mid May to early June. Lakes are usually froze up by November 1, sometimes earlier but rarely later.

We still have almost 3' of ice here with 2' of snow on it,,,it's gonna be real wet here for a while.

I had a Texan tell me once that it took three days to drive his truck from one end of his property to the other. I told him yeah, I had a truck like that once.
