Essential Carry Tools - 01/13/21 08:29 PM

For the fellows running trails, what do you consider as essential tools to carry with you vs luxury?
What tools would you not leave home without?
Thanks

5 ways to start a fire, including 2-3 road flares, fire starters (dryer lint with vaseline, stored in a film can, in my parka)
rope-a-long and 130 feet of rope on it, 1 snatch block, 3-4 carabiners, couple 20 foot pieces of rope as well
2 water bottles, 2 candy bars
snowshoes, shovel, axe, folding saw, chainsaw
tools, ice screws, spark plugs, spare belt for snowmobile
bandaids, electrical tape, gun, 2 headlamps and 1 flashlight
face mask, goggles, hat, 2-3 pairs of gloves

This is what I carry every day, no matter what else goes with me. This is mostly stored under my seat, box on back of snowmobile, on handlebar bags and on my person.

I pretty much duplicate what Super Wide has listed except no ice screws or chainsaw, but I make up for it with 2 axes instead of one.

Also carry a few common suspension parts, a new primer, recoil spring, various sized fuel line, springs etc.

Super Wide has it pretty well covered, including a few things I don't carry (ice screws, folding saw, etc) but one thing he doesn't mention that should be thrown in there is a small roll of tie wire. Amazing what you can jury rig to get home with some tie wire.

I added the small gas can to have extra for my chainsaw.

Seen this use of strapping to secure your tools on a youtube video,
One thing I will also add is spare fuses the new 4 strokes have a fuse box. Never thought of that along with a booster pack
Thanks for the comments.

Noticed there was one spark plug wrench, always check the tip cause some chainsaws require the torx end now.

Leave written instruction of what the plans are for your trip. Helps the First responders narrow the search field down. ( except for those with Spot or Inreach or Sat phone)

I just picked up a lithium jump starter & power bank, since I am running a 4 stroke. Able to boost snow machine or truck and or able to charge my cell phone or GoPro.

I usually like to have a way to make fire and way to collect tinder. Axe, shovel, inreach, extra clothes if it is extreme cold or have a chance of ending up in overflow, food or snacks, rifle, and pistol.

My new big saw does, but the little ones I carry on a snowmachine take a flathead, and if you are carrying a Husqvarna the 13mm wrench in your snowmobile toolkit (Skidoo and Arctic Cat have them, don't know about the other brands) will fit and works better than pliers for the bar nuts if you forget or loose your saw wrench. . . ask me how I know. Also Arctic cat have torx head screwdrivers in their toolkit and I believe the right size to fit the new Stihls.

@gibb. Which jump pack? What size truck motor? Have you used it and can you recommend it? Thanks.

This is the one I just picked up.
I wanted more for my 4 stroke snow machine and maybe charging my GoPro than trying to boost vehicles.

Will update in a year and let everyone know if it is any good.

Project Farm on YouTube has a really good test of jump packs. He buys them all himself and puts them through the ringer. He's a good guy to follow. He tests a LOT of different things.
