Shipping to Alaska is an International order ? - 05/22/21 03:50 PM

Well , this must be something new. Woodcraft will only ship to the Lower 48. Outside of that, it is considered an International Order. What other Companies are now doing this?

Do they consider Hawai’i to be international also?

They are way back on the east coast somewhere; probably never got word that we bought Alaska from Russia a few years ago.
No reason they can't ship by US Mail to anywhere in Alaska, UPS, and FEDEX can pose some problems though.

I think a lot of companies like Woodcraft have favorable contracts with certain shippers, and they just find it more expeditious to just stick with one shipper even though it means losing some business.

I don't do business with companies who aren't flexible with their shipping methods.

Run into that all the time. Even our local Home Depot has items they won't ship to Alaska. No reason, in particular, either. Like gutter downspout extensions, certain recessed light trim rings, etc.
Makes zero sense.

Try getting a replacement lithium battery for a tool or flashlight. No can do !.

But it's perfectly OK to get on a plane with a lithium battery-powered cell phone in your pocket !

I think a lot of companies try to make a bit more money off shipping charges than on the product they are selling.

If they are inflexible on their shipping I normally won't deal with them.

Several years ago I needed a new sim card for my sat phone. They refused to put it in the mail so it cost me $60 to UPS something that weighed maybe a tenth of an ounce. Still took over a week to get it

Don't even get me started on how some companies just don't ship here unless they can use UPS or FEDX I tried buying some windsock decoys this spring decoys they were on sale for $60 a doz the only way they would ship was UPS for $69 so much for ordering from Tangle free I even emailed them asking about mail nope wont do it. tried a few other companies got the same thing screw it I don't need the decoys that bad. Now since Bass Pro took over Cabelas they ship for free on orders over $50 but same thing they ship slow FEDX last two orders from Cabelas took over a month to get here screw it there are other places to buy from.
Like White 17 said try ordering something with a lithium battery. I went to Anchorage this spring needed a new cordless drill got it with an extra battery but the extra battery that wasn't installed in the drill had to go as carry on so I shoved it in my coat pocket. Some companies are just stupid about shipping and yes Hawaii is just as bad or worse

Unfortunately many companies ship with one carrier because they are given a discount. I have had to deal with this issue a few times when getting a pewster on gunbroker. Some wanted to charge $200 for shipping. I asked which carrier they are shipping and it was either ups or fedex. I asked about postal service, shipping was considerably less. Around $50-$60.
