Which Mech book to buy?

Got a Kindle and a Amazon gift card here burning a hole in my pocket....saw Mech has a few interesting looking Wolf books....any recommendations?

In my opinion, the book Wolves: Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation, is the best of the best. While not written, per se, by Mech, it is a compendium of writings from many authors, and is well put-together. Some sections I don't agree with completely, but superb book for stimulating thought.

The book Jack has cited above is also my choice. That doesn't mean much coming from a duffer like me but..................I am still amazed by this book. I bought it and took it to the trapline several years ago to read on those really cold days.
I read it twice. Someone with Gulo's foundations can breeze through the book. But for me, it was one of those reads that have so much information that it took me a day of cogitating to digest a couple of pages. Not that it is difficult to read. It isn't. It's just that there are so many ideas and information presented that it challenges what you think you thought before.

The pages on tail positions alone were a complete surprise to me as well as the description of what type of individual "outsider" a pack will allow to join the group. It sure wasn't what I thought it would be.

David was a professor at the U of M when I did my bachelors in Wildlife Biology there back in the 80's. I heard him speak a few times but never had him for a class. From a biology and research standpoint, I think he (at least was) always considered to be the lead guru. I know the U was pretty proud of him Just looked him up. 84 years old now. Lots of influence there. I had a grad student I worked for who went on to research and study wolves in Northern MN.

Reading the book now ...thanks for your input because I was questioning things seeing Mech research from
Late 60s to modern times. The man sure has put his time in ...I think he has(?) chimed in on the trap shed a few times regarding wolf traps but could be wrong.

I listened to Dave Mech and Durwood Allen speak about their wolf research to a wildlife management class I was taking in about 1969! Mech has some miles on him!

This might open up a can of worms...was there any research that showed which type of foothold trap held the most wolves, treated the wolves paw the best (I’ll bet that time is a factor in this ), and or that was preferred by Mech and the wolf crew? Was wondering after seeing the different Mech jaws on some traps.
