Muskrat Trapper from New Jersey - 11/07/21 06:41 AM

Last Tuesday's ATA meeting was a blast listening to a muskrat trapper from New Jersey. Thank you Pete for all you done for the ATA, trapping and hunting community and for sharing your stories with us. It was a great turn out with a lot of laughs. I still wanna see some pics of you on an Elan. You should have had two, one for each foot, like a powered snowshoe.... Thanks again.. [Linked Image]

Thanks JR! I had fun doing the program. It was good "brain exercise" to recall all those old stories for the ATA Oral History Program. I had put off being "old enough to be considered a candidate for the project," but it appears the time had come!

I am indeed proud to have been able to start out as a Jersey 'rat trapper, yet make the move to Alaska and be happy and pretty successful. Went from school boy eastern 'rat trapper to serve as President of ATA, hold a Master Guide license and serve on the Alaska Board of Game, Guide Licensing and Control Board and Big Game Commercial Services Board.

It's been a great, full life! When my book comes out in the Spring.... those of you who like my stories will have a great opportunity to read some of them (and contribute to my continued happy retirement!)

First met Pete in 1978 as a youngster (21) looking to be a wilderness trapper. Pete said the fur cycle was down but I ended up in a good spot and got a good start in Alaska trapping. Have been around Pete off and on in the years since. Valuable guy with loads of information on many subjects, not just trapping.
Looking forward to the book.

You'll have to send some out to Newt to sell, I'd be interested in one.

I met Pete at the Western NTA Convention in Miles City where he and many others put on a wolf trapping and snaring class .

Then he won the chance to hunt a free roaming buffalo on a sweepstakes benefiting the Hardin Otter swim team , he learned quickly how snow and wind isn't always your friend in the Bighorn Mtns of South Central Montana and chokecherries are much better turned into syrup than picked off the bush , next time Pete I'll try to find some Buffalo berries for us they're best eaten after a frost .

Not to be out done the state of Alaska decided to draw him for a buffalo permit the year after .

I'm looking forward to getting a copy of the book as well from Bawana Pete Buist !

Man I wanted to be at that one! Between work and them (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) kids I couldn't make it. Those brats are on the "not do crap" list. It took 3 days for them to fill the wood box, and then another 3 days to not finish stacking a small pile of pallets I cut. Soon their behinds are what's gonna be on fire!

Pete, Sounds like you need to put the first Autographed 50 copies up to auction somewhere for a good cause! I'll bid on a couple!

I see it’s available for nook and kindle. When does the printed version come out?

The publisher delivered 1000 copies to my home in Fairbanks last week (much to the surprise of my house-sitters!)

However, I am at my place in NJ for a while and so..... there they sit!

I will go into full-bore marketing mode by about March.

That should give you plenty of time to save up the $20 to buy a copy!
