Electronic predator calls

What are you using?
I'm guessing some are better suited for alaska cold and animal sounds they make?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

I use my foxpro hammerjack all the time. I’ve called in lions, bears, elk, coyotes etc. Order it directly from foxpro and you can hand pick up to like 100 sounds. I use the bear cub in distress for bears and if there is one in the area they almost always respond. I have much better luck using the vocals of the target animals over a distressed prey sound but I also like to alternate sounds every 10 minutes or so. It’s amazing how critters respond when the sound switches and it grabs their attention. Coyote fight and coyote in distress work better for me than a rabbit squealing. Cougar vocals work fairly well, I called three lions in this year alone. I don’t think they have a lynx sound though which is unfortunate.

I don’t know the answer on the cold weather piece though. I was calling this morning at 11 degrees and below zero windchill. Worked fine.

But wow decisions to make (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) they have a lot to choose from.

Foxpro. The batteries have always outlasted me in cold temps.

I use a Foxpro Fusion as well guy on this forum turned me on to.
I use it a ton these days so I adapted it to wire out to a Dakota lithium 7.5 amh rechargeable battery. Battery is phenomenally light ( but spendy ) Runs that caller endlessly it seems.
I keep the set up in a back pack, set it down and go. The remote control has terrific range.

If still interested, I use a FoxPro Fusion. Bought it from Allpredatorcalls. They frequently have cosmetic seconds or refurbished. I saved $100 and never had a problem in 4 years. I use their Wicked Lights too.

Take out the batteries when not using. Buy an extra battery tray in case you forget to remove the batteries and find a mess.

I"ve used quite a few e callers over the years since I started out with a homemade Car cassette player turned remote predator caller back in the late 1970s. My current caller that I use is a Foxpro X1. The remote works great out to about 200 yds (for nite calling) with a clean line of site. The 9 volt battery in the remote seems to die quickly in cold weather so keep that tucked into my parka when not using to change the caller. The battery pack I purchased extra seems to outlast me at the stands. Although I have not used this caller in super cold weather, on many other set ups in the past I would place my caller in a heavy insulated soft side camo cooler with my speaker outside the cooller. I would throw in a couple hot hands heater packs and it seemed to keep calling when the temps were way below zero. Osky has the right idea in a heavier duty external battery pack. I have done that before using gel or motorcycle batteries in the past. As mentioned Foxpro has a library of sounds you can pick and choose than buy and download into your Foxpro caller. I am not a computer wiz, but I had no problem downloading onto my callers. Lucky Duck makes a good caller also I am told. Randy Anderson ( a popular predator caller from Nebr) uses Primos callers alot in Canada and they seem to work ok in the cold.

Chasing eyes - The FoxPro sound library offers many optional sounds. Depending on which FoxPro you get, you may be able to use sounds from just about anywhere. My Fusion caller uses sounds saved as MP4 files. When at a spot and ready to leave, I sometimes suggest that we try one more sound. Then I hit play on a Stevie Nicks song that is from a cd that I bought which causes a few laughs. (Be careful of bootleg sound files.)

By doing a search on the interweb I found hundreds of MP4 game caller sounds that are listed as open source or free market, or no copyright and not bootleg sound files. Simply save them to a memory stick or hard drive then follow the instructions on the FoxPro website.

Ncatman - you may want to check if you can use the TS1000 remote. It has many features and uses AA batteries - 3 of them.

If you get an extra battery holder for the caller it makes changing batteries easy. Just switch out the battery holder. Like an 8 track tape if like me you are that old!?! Ha.

When considering what electronic caller brand I learned that FoxPro callers are made in the USA! Not just designed here, but actually made here. I just ordered a new FoxPro Jack Daddy decoy and it too is made here. To me that is extremely important! I have no affiliation with FoxPro.

In my experience a decoy is a tremendous addition to calling. The decoy gives the animal something to focus on. I had been using a decoy that attached to the Fusion caller. I wanted to separate the decoy and caller so bought the Jack Daddy.

If all else fails, if still made go with a Weem’s Wildcall. Mine has called in loads of fox and coyotes, and even one mountain lion. If it is very cold, keep it inside your coat to prevent freezing.

Yes they will put on what u want- had wolf, elk calf, mt. Lion, etc. put on mine for going out west. Just b careful and set up where u can see for quite a way if grizzlies r around!!

In your area you can get away with a Foxpro. Around here everyone and their brother uses one and the animals know those sounds. I've had better luck with a Lucky Duck because of that.

My experience with electronic calls is that a dual speaker caller sounds much better and more realistic to my old ears than a single speaker caller. That may or may not make any difference to the animals being called. My first caller was a Primos Alpha Dog dual speaker. I currently have a Foxpro Fusion. Coyote pup distress is a very productive call and has brought them in at a run. Be ready to shoot fast.

You can't beat foxpro.
