Lynx Population on the KP

Last year they opened the season for us, after being closed for a long time due to the bunny and lynx low cycle. I was unable to trap due to health issues, and not able to participate the way I wanted. This year has been much the same, except I've been iced out of the salt, and snowed out of the back country. We've had a plethora of both snow and ice here in Homer.

Without going into any specifics on locale - I'm wondering what those of you are seeing on the KP as to lynx sign. Is it increasing? Are you seeing more bunny sign? How is trapping results? If you want to keep it mum but are willing to comment - you can pm me.

I brought my E-Caller with me when I came back from MN. Have been thinking about going out and trying to call one in. Well, I'm going to - but could use a little encouragement.

Let me know if any of you want to join forces and try this. I've done it a lot down south, but not up here.

I've seen decent sign in the vicinity of Cooper Landing the last couple weeks. Nothing like I saw up near chitina last year though. Had a few come to calls before trapping season and put out two traps so far with no success. Rabbits are slowly on the rise now and moving intermittently between weather systems

As I recall Bill some time ago you asked about using baited 330s for fox and lynx? Well Cooper Landing has had more than their share of trapping conflicts and as a result are pushing HARD for trapping closures. We don’t need any gas thrown on that fire!
Everybody please keep that in mind anywhere along the road or trails.

I appreciate the concern! I'm well out of the way of humans using a boat + snowshoes for access. Unless someone's airdropping dogs in it shouldn't be a problem haha. Had a few refusals on the cubbies so that's the current hill to climb

Well you specifically mentioned Cooper Landing and we’ve had a running battle for almost 10 years so good luck boat trapping and everyone please, no dogs! Lynx seasons here tend to bring on more incidents because of heightened trapping activity.

Keep in mind I am not asking for any spots or specific locales - but just more interested to hear the range of what people are seeing and experiencing out there in this huge area, and what their thoughts are about this year compared to last year, or compared to the last time you could trap/hunt.

Locals tell me there was a huge Lynx explosion back around 2010-2012 - and that they were literally everywhere. Even in town. I guess I just missed it when I arrived in 2013. But hoping it comes around like that again. I'd sure like to experience that.
