Good snow machine choice. I had a couple Wide Tracks in the 90’s and put lots of miles on them and didn’t have any problems.

I’m heading out to the line today, gonna spend 4 or so days out getting some marten and cat sets out. Gonna have to do everything on foot also, barely any snow up here. Forecast says we should be getting some on Thursday though. Hope you guys get dumped on too

No way cats are close to being prime, still very “red”. You will double your money on cat hides if you’ll wait until the 1st of the year to trap them. Huge difference in color and fullness.

Trailblazersteve is spot on, you'll be catching brown bellies for sure!! Otherwise I hope you see plenty of sign. Rabbits crashed a few years back in my area and it's been slim pickin's except for beaver and rats but I am seeing more rabbit sign this year smile

The rabbits are coming back here and so are the Lynx, I have them running through the yard stalking my chickens. Should be a lot this year.

I always wait until the 1st of December to start trapping Lynx, the leather is about white then and the fur is pretty good and saleable for decent money.
November cats are brown and short haired.

X2 ! I would rarely make a cat set before February 1st. Just ugly before that

It's actually historically 'champing' at the bit but language evolves and chomping is fine as well now. Good luck out there, wolves and beaver should be plenty prime by now

I would agree opening day is early for lynx but it is not always about prime. You might try advertising on taxidermy. net and sell to taxidermists. Dorsal skin (check YouTube) the animal, leave the lower part of each foot in. Skin out the head, sell the skull. Freeze the skinned hide and ship express mail to lower 48. Exp. mail rates may make this impractical but check on that.
Just remembered you want to tan your hides and sew? I assume your gonna need some income before all that starts?

Re: Chompin at the bit - 11/04/22 03:47 AM

Yessir gotta get some money coming in. A few lynx and a few fox to get by till the fur is really nice would suffice for now. I got a lot of land to cover with lots of critters.

Got some bills to pay and mouths to feed

Came back to get snow machine, got lots of snow last night. Saw lots and lots of rabbit tracks, a quite a few lynx. Found where some wolves have been swinging through, put out some snares for them.

Good deal on getting the snow! Heck of alot easier traveling on a machine vs walking! Hope you connect with a few critters on your next run!

If you have fox you would do well to have snares.
Congrats on the catch!

See? Already you have learned that house cats make terrific fox bait...! Keep that learning curve going.
