best, white trap dye - 02/20/24 07:56 AM

Hey gang. I've got an educated otter. It KNOWS 330s. I put one here, it goes there. I put two there, it makes a new trail, etc. I need to fool that bugger. Any tips on white trap dye? I don't see white speed dip anywhere, not sure what happened. What do you all use and where can I get it?

I use white spray paint for otter conibears above the ice. They don't seem to smell the paint.

Product called Formular One from SnareOne. Used it for years lower 48. Comes in several colors and white is one of them.

I've used Rustoleum and acetone 50/50, worked great the first year, second year the paint I bought must have had something wrong with it, it dried like spackle all rough. Last year I tried latex paint thinned with water. Covered nice but rusted right through the paint. I've used spray paint with good results, just more expensive and time consuming. This year I'm going to get a powder coat gun and powder coat them white. But for your use right now I would try spray paint.

Ay "oil based" paint 2:1 gasoline. Why don't foot holds or snares work?

I used Rustoleum thinned down with acetone when I dipped my 120's and 330's in it. Worked great for a year or two, but after several years of use they do tend to chip and then rust. I would then need to take a wire brush and knock it off to redip them.

JR dips his #9's in something to make them white. Not sure but he may have posted it some place if you search.

I use rusty metal primer/acetone (40/60) dipped two coats and an overspray of automotive Ultra Matte White acrylic enamel.

I go the spray paint route. Wouldn't recommend Formula 1 for traps period. I tried it and was not impressed. Once that barrier is broke rust forms under it and you will be using a wire brush prior to dipping next year, Now for snares it works great for me!
