Have any of you ever used them to secure your traps? I'm going to try and use some this year and i'm sure it might be not a great option for canines, but for smaller animals like fisher, coon, bobcat, and muskrat I could see them working very well since the tree will swell around the staple and hold it. What you you guys think?
Personally I wouldn’t I like my traps too much to even chance it

Not sure about fence staples, but the screw in eye lags work very well. If you are trapping year to year at the same spot, you can leave them in place and just reuse them.
Interesting, I never thought of eye screws/lags before. For the staples I know you can get barbed ones that are 2 inches or so. A few others on the forum have stated about using it and seems like as long as you get the right staple and pound it into the right tree, it will take a crowbar to pry them out. I got ones that are 1 and 1/2 inches. I might try them but I will have an extra chain or a drag as insurance if it comes loose so I don't lose my trap or anything. Also I think that fence staples would be perfectly fine for conibears, but this will be a little trial and error experiment.

Yep! If a post isn’t about everything it’s not really a post!
I made a few fence staples in my technical class the other day. Nothing fancy, But if you got some longer nails i've found you can make some big ones im sure of it. Nails are neat. I have made some S hooks and J hooks from them and ive made about 3 or 4 swivels from pipe and homemade J hooks. The fun is only beginning. More in a new post.
