Had my daughter with me today. She is my luck charm. Caught this young male in the only set of 6 on this location that hadn't caught a possum or coon yet. Had to pull the traps there because of work next week but I will be back there in a few weeks.

Do you guys have any tips for a new trapper? In my area I am pretty much limited to coyotes and bobcats. I am also the only trapper in my family so I am starting from scratch with a dozen duke #3s. Uh I wouldn't think so. MAYBE if it was 4 coiled? I don't trap beaver so idk. I know I have heard of using at least number 4s and 5s

I'm not a beaver trapper either, but most guys I hear won't use a trap even as small as a #3.

For those thinking of trapping beaver---I started with #3 coils.They were fine for front foot catches,but lack the jawspread needed for consistant hind foot catches.
My trap of choice now,is the 330.
One point to always remember---always stake for the largest animal in your area.
Even my muskrat sets are staked well---over the years I have held over 100 beaver in my #1 stop loss traps set for muskrats. The small trap is in no way --a trap that should be used for beaver---but by staking well,you will hold some those larger animals that check out your muskrat sets.
Largest beaver held in a rat set was,56 pounds.Largest coon held in a rat set--38 pounds.
Stake well.

Supposed to get some snow the day after tmrw, I think I'll refresh my predator sets and make sure everything is in good order for that cold weather, maybe even get some more sets out. Nice. I trap behind the house and set other places when my dad isn't working. I hope to trip this weekend at my grandma. But deer gun season might interfere. Last year we shot 4 those almost didn't last long enough. My family eats so much deer meat.

The 550 is a good trap! I wish duke made a 450 size! But normal dukes like 1.5s, 1.75s and 2s are not my favorite. I’m a Bridget guy through and through! I’d come closer to sticking a out of the box Bridger in the ground rather than a duke!

Not to brag but I make some GOOD coon my brother and best friend tried it and LOVED it. The trick is getting a coon that’s in the 7-10lbs or 3.17-4.5kg for myside and cooking it slowly in beef broth with onions and spices. But before that let it soak in salt water in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Cook it low and slow 350 degrees Fahrenheit or (176 for myside) max 330-345 is great (165-173 Canadian) till it falls of the bone and serve with mashed potatoes and pinto beans!

I'm only talking talking to the first one that supposedly likes me and honestly, idk she knows way too much about me for comfort. But Idk she probably doesn't respect me cuz long story short we were having a conversation about passed relationships and she was giving me advice (honestly terrible advice) and I asked about her relationships and she told me she'd had 2, ok? No problems except recently I found out that she'd actually had 3. And she said she had never lied to me and claimed that it wasn't lying it just only telling 2/3s of the truth.

Yeah, I mean she's actually a pretty good friend 98% of the time, just confusing. And its really her friend that was causing problems, who I dont even talk to except for 1 time that I mostly regret. Thing of it is, is that I'm not even looking to date (i mean if the right girl came along) so its just a mess. But I'll be sure to take your advice and pray more.

Trapped this dog coyote in a Wolf Creek #3 dogless on Thanksgiving! Flat set, using Young's "Ambush" bait, & Dorris' "Buffalo Oil" & "K-9 Haggis Oil."
Jesse, the trapline dog also treed the fox, which I let go.

The first 'yote came at a 2 scat, with bobcat scat, Winter's 'Cat urine, & Mark June's "Silent Stalker."
The bottom one came at the same trap & location as the grey, except I was using Mark June's "Widowmaker" bait, Young's "K-1", & Winter's Fox urine.

Got my first yote last weekend. Got a coon yesterday. And found a otter trail crossing a pond dam. Got a pocket set in for him. Any one else have to draw a bobcat tag to get one. They only give out 500 tags. And there is a ton of here the place I'm coyote trapping is littered with em and its next to a big town. Had one on trail cam last year

Nothing in my coyote traps yet they made a round of the field 6 days ago and the day before that I saw some tracks half way to it and now there repeating there cycle I’m hoping I luck out cause I put a trap down this time checked my weasel boxes and got a rat

Trappings been rough coyotes are digging me up coon aren’t runnin and I haven’t seen any otter sign since I put the set in any ideas for bait and lure for the coyotes thinking about the cavens hiwatha valley predator bait with cavens gusto I’ve heard it’s a good combination

I just threw out two cable restraints over the last few days one's by and old fence and the other by some small pines bent down that rabbits are living in that the coyotes poke around in I'll snag some pics when I check them tomorrow

I got my first coyote last week. Sucks that he is mangy but still a first. Pretty much learned everything from YouTube as I don’t really have anyone experienced to go along with me.

Forgot to ask, I’ve had the remake set for a week and nothing even worked the set. I put a flat set on the end he of the catch circle with droppings and coyote gland lure. Any advice?

Caught this guy this morning unfortunately. I used cavens Minnesota brand predator bait that I spiked with salmon oil, young’s “K-1”, and English mtn lures “smoky lust.” He was 2 feet in a modified Duke 1 3/4 I got from authortrapper

Yes authortrapper, first ever that I still had in the trap. In the past two years I’ve had three coyotes pull out of 4 coiled mb 550 offsets and two pull up 40 inch stakes for snares and run off.

In heavily wooded areas, try cabling your snares to a tree if you can! As far as foot holds, use earth anchors. They are lighter, last longer, & hold better!

I set some snares today and anchored them to small trees. Next year I plan on ordering super stakes for all my canine traps.

when using rerod stakes,you can cross stake them for added holding power.

Got them cross staked after the past experiences but it’s a pain to drive a 30-40 inch stake. You might think that’s overkill but two 24 inch stakes won’t hold a coyote in my soil

Guys I caught my first mink today!!! Somehow he got caught in a 110 and 1.5 but I’m not complaining since I got him. It’s so weird because I was getting frustrated with the spot. The two traps where at muskrat den entrances above water since it’s only about 8-10 inches deep. Went 4 days with no muskrats then decided I was gonna pull today and I got a mink! I was so excited lol my goals this year were to catch a coyote and a mink and I achieved both of them!!

I’m not sure if it’s a male or female. It seems pretty big to me so I thought it to be a male but can’t see any visible male sex organs but I could have overlooked. I’m taking it to an older guys house to borrow a stretcher from him so hopefully he will help me

2 cat killers in two days! The first pranced into a Wolf Creek #3 dogless offset, that was guarding Young Bait & Lures' "Ambush" bait, and Mark June's "Windwalker" lure at a flat set.
The second one got caught in a Sleepy Creek #1.75 offset, at a scat set, with Southern Snares' Coyote Urine and Mark June's "Coyote Frenzy" lure.

Nothing like trapping beaver.you get your work out too. By far the heaviest animal on most trappers line.
Largest for me weighed 86 pounds. And those CASTORS SMELL SO GOOD.

That’s incredible. The biggest Ive gotten was 62 pounds, and that one was huge. I can’t imagine them almost hitting 90! Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a good story to that? I seem to recall you trapped a ton of beaver out of that colony before you got the giant?

The 86 pounder was a female. I set up the pond she was located on and missed her the first night,I did get the adult male and some 2 year olds the first night. I ende up getting the male,10 2year olds and 10 young from that year.
The next season I got the new adult male and 10 young of the year. This told me the old female was raising 10 young a year--I finally got her,the following fall. While our average colony consists of 10 beaver---this colony on my first arrival,consisted of 22 beaver. The largest single colony I have encountered.
