18 inch 3/8 rebar stake for coon? - 10/25/20 11:41 PM

Would you guys use this stake for coon? My ground is hard clay so it holds nice. I bet it would hold a fox well. I would just make sure the chain isn't too short so the coon wont pump it. I've been making stakes in school and I also have some that are 24 inches long as well.

I would go 24" to be safe. But then again, I don't know much so.

But it's better to overstake then to understake and loose a critter, eh?

If you can make some out of 1/2 inch--all the better. I use almost all 1/2 inch rerod stakes--they hold so much better. You are going to long chain them, also make sure a caught coon has nothing to grab onto or climb.

I used 18" 3/8 rebar stakes and to test it I hammered my trap in ( it was a DP) and pulled the trap as hard as I could and then leaned with all my weight pilling the trap. it held. I figure if I can't pull with all my weight (155 LBS) a 25 pound coon won't either.

Well for an interesting turn of events, I managed to get my hands on at least 20 feet of 1/2 rebar last night! Its the coated stuff too so it will have even better protection than using just the raw stake.
