Casper what are goats bringing up there? Last night there were 2 head selection 1 kids 45-60lb sold for $4.00/lb. I ran a Pygmy to $2.55/lb

In that same 4$/lb range. Raises dramatically around Muslim holidays and stuff. But as of now its holding pretty steady at 4

I figured. The Muslim holidays are when we try to sell from May-July. Even grade 3s we’re bringing $3.45 in the middle of winter. I can’t wait to see prices in May! Pygmys were bringing $2.60 or better. Crossed yearlings were the same. Wethers where bringing $2.50 our thin Nannie brought hardly anything of course $1.70.

Re: Farming - 01/17/21 12:17 AM

Speaking of death there has only been one time I cried when an animal died. I was 13 and we had a goat with bloat. As a Hail Mary my dad told me to try to get some baking soda solution down it and it died while I was giving it medicine. Those were the crapiest goats we have had! I bought one from that bunch and it died within 3 days that was my first goat then my dad was like take that other little doe you can have her she died in 2 weeks my dads was the one with bloat and my brothers wouldn’t get pregnant.

Re: Farming - 01/17/21 01:07 AM

Oh wow thats tough.

Next time you have a goat with really bad bloat get a vet to put a trocher in it. Saved alot of cattle that way.
And you can also take and shove a tube feeder down their throat, thats for less severe cases but worst comes to worst take your pocket knife and stab em in the stomach and hold the hole open till the gas is out, its the same thing a trocher does just a cruder last resort when the vet doesn't have time to get there. Do take care not to give them a infection tho

Re: Farming - 01/17/21 03:38 AM

No. I’ll set one of the 2000 tomorrow. The 135 isn’t anything special it needs work it looks sorta rough and need a new power steering unit. I’ll snap a pick of it and the 165 next time I’m there. What kind of cows do you have?

We like to sell lambs for the Muslim holidays. Actually my uncle from England knew how to professionally cook them so he made us one and MMMMMMM it was tender and well flavored with a good char. We also sell some to 4H kids

Lamb is good! I saw some at the sale and told my dad they would taste cute lol. I have thought about getting rabbits for meat and to sell to 4-H kids that live in the city give them something to do and take care of and be responsible. The Muslim holidays are the way to go I tell ya!
