What has your experience been with the FMJ when winter trapping using flaked antifreeze? Does it hold up better than wax?

In my opinion, it holds up better than wax. It doesn’t chip like wax does and it did a pretty good job of protecting my traps. After a lot of use and abuse, they did start to rust a little.

Can't say I had that good of experience with it. Double coated some like they said to due for new traps. Compared to my waxed traps they did not hold up well at all.
I don't have any problem with wax chipping off. Been using regular canning wax, but I add some pine pitch that you'll find leaking out of most pine or spruce trees. Ends the flaking problem.

I have never had wax chip off a trap. You might be getting it on too thick if it chipping off.

The FMJ wasn't your problem.

I would imagine FMJ comes off in ammonia and hot water bath with a little scrubbing action. It sort of smells like the floor wax we used to wax a sales room show floor with every other night. A thousand feet walking on this floor wore some off and we scrubbed the rest off with an ammonia based floor cleaning solution and power scrubber.

Soak them in clean water for 72 hours the coating becomes white and tacky .Pressure wash the crap out of them, after doing so mine usually start rusting over nite. The directions say not to use it on water traps lol kind of a dead give away. On new traps I dip mine up to 4 times but I dry mine for a week usually. Love it no issues yet even after a 24hr dipped trap. I love that once its dries it cant be contaminated by other foreign scents. Unless they get wet for a prolonged period on hot sunny day you can go thru a mountain of traps using fmj! But im a rustoleum fan myself. Didn't aim for that to sound smart arsed!

It doesn't chip like regular wax?? If you get your wax hot enough and leave the trap In the hot wax till It becomes the same temp as the wax you will en dup with a perfect wax job.
A lot better then that FMJ stuff.
