Menards Fiberglass “rebar”

Curious to see if anyone has used this yet. They are claiming it is as
strong as #4 rebar!?! Might be a lightweight inexpensive alternative to rebar.

Ain't that something?!?
Never heard of it before but I'm skeptical. I'd like to know everyone's thoughts too. I'll be following this.

Me too. WITHOUT the rebate, it is $4.99 for a 20' section. That is $1.00 per 4' pole. That is a lot cheaper than the 4' fiberglass poles I've seen for sale..... I will have to pick up a few to try out this year.

I was thinking possibly drowning rods. Going to pick some up and see how tough they are.

Just a word of caution, make sure these are treated for UV protection, which will help with splintering...……..
My guess, knowing "menards" and these are to be used "IN CONCRETE"...….my guess is these are not treated, again, only my opinion. Just be careful.

Some guy's are always looking for 6-8' marker poles for m-rats and beaver.

I have some similar to those, there four foot long. If there what I have they have a rough surface to adhere to the concrete. These will splinter in time with rough abuse.

I used this rebar just last week in the concrete for my driveway. Light and easy to handle as well as easy to cut . I think the stuff I used was 7/16, supposedly as strong as 1/2in steel . Don't think it would be strong enough for kill poles, might work for drowning rods.

LDW - Seal it with paint to preserve the "glass" from the UV rays and to deter from fraying . 2 coats of the toughest stuff you can find after its cut to your length. Store inside off-season. I used mine for rat poles where a coon could swim out and get caught (one never did) but if you realize its not made for above ground use (without a coating) then so far,,, mine is holding up.

Well I went to Menards this morning to look at this fiberglass rebar and it's super light weight but.... it's very powdery & starting to splinter. I'll stick with old metal rebar.

This is what I saw as well. Not good for much besides its intended use IMO.

Finally got to the closest Menards, asked to look at the fiberglass rebar and like others quickly determined that it wasn’t what I was hoping for. From what I saw It wouldn’t hold up and I would actually be worried about it shattering under pressure from an animal the size of a Beaver.
What is the saying “if it sounds to good to be true it probably is!”
