How does this compare to Gusto or Hawbaker's #600 ? Looking for that really loud cold weather long distance call lure. Anyone use the Hellfire lure that can comment on how it compares ? -Thanks

I used it last two seasons latr winter coyotes and cat sets. It's pretty loud. I used gusto also at some sets. Caught coyotes on both, not sure if one is better than other but I do plan on using both again this winter so wasnt disappointed in either one if that helps.
I had a bottle of June's skunky call lure also we used.
I think you will like hellfire if you liked the other lures you mentioned. It was easy to use...bright red and sort of a greasy past like base was easy to smear a little at or near sets.
You can tell if the lid isnt on tightly and you leave your truck in the garage overnight for sure. Mrs wasnt happy with me on that one last year because it made her vehicle smell a little like hellfire too.

I was a die hard Gusto user for marten trapping but switched to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) fire a couple years ago and never looked back

Since we are talking about long range lures how are they generally used?

I put a smear on a tree limb or fence post above or near my set .

I use to use gusto. Switched to hellfire. Now going back to gusto. Maybe it’s all in my head but I had better luck with gusto.

In my opinion it takes more than just skunk to make a good call lure. My opinion the skunk is suppose to carry the attractive odors not be the attraction. With that said I'm talking cats and coyotes not Martin or Fisher I know nothing about the things.

Smear of any Skunk flavored lure 18 in. or so on a tree or fencepost with a trap in front is as good as it gets

Has its pros and cons. It’s not going to wash away as easy as Gusto in rain, but in dry conditions I’ve noticed gusto last a lot longer. I also prefer gusto because it has a lot of Caster in it as well which is also a huge attractant.

I fount his place on a logging old rd. I live in the ozarks. I set that place one winter with gusto and hiawatha in a dirt hole set. I used flagging too. It was a saddle like hill. I caught 6 cats held 5 in that one set over the season. I caught more cats on gusto.

As previously stated by "Yes sir" a good LDC is not just skunk essence alone as it can bleed off quickly as a stand alone once exposed . Testing has proven this fact over time.

A blended LDC lure containing other ingredients with castor as stated using skunk as the carrier agent will contribute to the effectiveness and the added curiosity due to the mixed odor chemistry. The other elements will serve to absorb and hold the skunk essence which allows for a more controlled release.

Skunk essence alone has its value but it's best use is that it greatly enhances the other elements in a formula even after the obvious odor seems to have dissipated.

I tried (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) Fire last year and thought it smelled like straight skunk. I’m not an animal though so I can’t detect the slight differences. I also tried dipping it into a branch about 6 ft away from a set for a call lure and in a couple days it didn’t smell at all. I’m sure it has its place and I know a lot of critters are caught in it but I much rather the other brands that are not quite as skunky but have other smells I can pick out. Just seems they work better for me with more variety in one jar.
