Bobcat scat - 12/29/19 10:56 AM

Do you ever put scat at your bobcat sets? I was thinking about it today, but I wasn't sure if what I found was bobcat or coyote scat.

Yes. Cat will sniff at either one. Put a little gland lure on it

I collect cat scat. It looks like a tootsie roll, the ends are flat, not pointed and they're divided up into little section. If you find some its a good spot to make a set.

I don't make a lured cat set without droppings. It is that important,if you can get them close enough to see them,at least.Keep the snow off them.

My favorite is housecat but bobcat, coyote or. Fox will work. One year, when I didn't have many droppings,I made some out of plaster of Paris, with chopped dear hair mixed in.Some were white and some,I added pigment to darken them. They all worked.I gave them a shot of urine,at the set.Today,I would probably use a good, spiked urine.

I'm not setup to make scat. I wish a vendor sold bobcat scat. I know Mark June's used to sell yote cote. I put some scat by a set today...I think it may have been yote scat.

Mark also used to sell bobcat.

I'm not sure what you mean, not set up for?You can make it on a kitchen table.I could make it on aTV tray if I had to.All you need is a lb of plaster,a cheap mixing bowl and water. If I did it again,I wouldn't chop deer hair but would mix in sawdust instead, mostly to thicken and give it a little texture.

I guess I mostly meant that I probably don't have time to make scat this month.

We lost our source for bobcat scat last year as Fraser Fur Farms retired. Ouch.

Raid the cats litter box, soak with good bobcat urine and you have a winner, betting you could use tootsie rolls with urine on them too, just don't eat them lol.Scat is always good to use at many different sets.

I have a black garden soaker hose I have intended to chop up but just haven’t done it. Soak in urine or a little gland lure in it and I think it would look and work well.

Saw BulletBox show the soaker hose deal at a TTFHA demo years ago. Still use it sometimes if I'm out of tootsie rolls. It works. I think cat scat with a shot of urine are an important part of most good cat sets.

I might look into some tootsie rolls. I haven't seen any actual bobcat scat. I don't have a cat anymore so can't easily raid a litter box.

It don't need to be bobcat scat, I use what ever I find which is mostly coyote.

I put a ziplock bag in the truck today. If I see coyote scat I'll try it on bobcat.

As a matter of fact I do have 52 pints of bobcat scat on hand that I've been picking up from these Texas bobbies that are a turding bunch. I may sell them at the NTA.

Is cat scat cat scat?
Any reason someone can't use house(as long as the litter isn't scented) or barn cat scat?

Re: Bobcat scat - 02/02/20 04:59 PM

Absolutely.Housecat works extremely well.I used it for many years.I preferred mine from outdoor toilets,in dirt. They really retain their smell.I don't have any of those turd makers left so am running very low.I definitely caught cats on the stuff I got from Mark June,as well.
