Has anyone had any problems with these traps from TRAPS USA?

Springs don't last long. Lots of Pull outs. Threw them away cause was too embarrassed to sell them. That has been my experience. Hope this helps!

When I got them I was pleased with how strong the springs were and being made in USA. Now after using them 1 season some of the traps have broken springs. I've used Duke DPs for several years and never had an issue with the springs. I wrote to the company a couple weeks ago, but have not heard back.

I have several dozen of the shackles. They are a 60/40 ratio of twist lock anchor to post-style anchor. I have not had any increased issues with pull-outs and have been running them, along with other brands, for several years. The last time I tried to reach the company my emails went unanswered but when I called the phone number I ended up reaching the owner and my questions/order got taken care of (this was 2019).

I have never heard of anyone having broken springs until you guys. I have had pull-outs with multiple brands, especially when there is a tree or root or “something” for them to grab and pull against.

If I had not already bought 3-4 times as many dp traps as I need I would have bought a couple dozen of those traps. Most all of the reviews I have read have been good. They are also made right here in the USA! Plus they are also made of aluminum. That cuts down on the carry weight. Take this with a pound of salt as I do not own any of them. Tho I do see me ordering a dozen or two in the near future.

I am also watching this thread to see what those that have used the have to say.

I did catch coon in these traps, with no pull-outs. Even made in the USA if the springs break they're no good to use. Also they are not made of aluminum. They are a copy of the Duke DP. They don't make the twist lock type anymore.

Have several dozen and have not had any problems. Springs are really strong.

Re: Coon Shackles - 03/25/20 04:42 AM

The traps I have without the broken springs do have strong springs. Had planned on buying more, but it seems the company doesn't stand by their traps as I haven't gotten a response to my letter. I know a company can get a bad lot of springs. I would just like to feel could set out these traps and not wonder if any more springs will break.

You got a good point .keep trying to get in touch with them because they really do need to take care of this problem

Re: Coon Shackles - 03/26/20 11:45 PM

I generally stick to what I know works which makes me one who doesn’t change my operation very often. That being said, I look at the typical size of coon before I jump at price. An Arkansas coon or an Ohio coon (from Trent Masterson’s old advertising videos) is smaller than one from say Minnesota or Nebraska.

Then, when I’m at Cumberland’s NW Trapper’s Supply, I handle the stuff in the used bins. Traps I know that have been around just a couple years, that have weak springs, don’t get a second look even if they’re new. If it only takes a year or two to destroy a spring, I’m not interested.

These traps are not a couple years old. I bought them just before the last season. The springs broke. The traps with springs that didn't break are still strong. I had no problem holding coon in the good traps. I just don't know if I have much faith in the springs holding up in the traps that haven't broken.

I guess I'll just buy new springs for these traps. I did plan on buying a couple dozen more, but It's been a month since I wrote to the company and I got no reply. Some companies just don't seem to care if the quality not there.

One spring broke on the short end of the spring and the other broke on the long end. Both near the coil and both were while set.

I bought some springs for Bridger #2s and they worked fine. I never got a response from TRAPS USA. Too bad I planned on buying more, but it's not a company I want to do business with. If they would have taken the time to respond to my letter, I would have more respect. I'll just pay a little more and get the Dukes. I've had good luck with them. Some I've had for 6 years and never had a spring break. Made in USA doesn't always mean quality. Buyer beware from this company.

I use dukes most . But bought a few new diablo dp. The springs wasnt that strong. So before I set them I took replacement springs for dukes put on them. Now they hold good. I replace my springs on my dukes every 3 yrs . U mite try replacing the springs. Replacement springs and 2 ribbits for dukes was a 1.00 for each trap. Well worth a 1.00.

Where do you get the replacement springs? I will get some just to have on hand. I also checked out the diablo dp and found the springs not as strong as I like.

How would you go about changing springs in any dp other than a freedom brand? Cause thats the only brand of replacement springs I can find. Will they work on z-traps and dukes?

So, TrapsUSA, what have you got to say about what this thread was originally about? Do you stand behind your product?

Re: Coon Shackles - 05/28/21 12:33 PM

Traps USA did make this right. It took a while and they did apologize. I will buy their traps again and have had no more issues with them. Write them they will send new springs.
