Pulling/Removing Earth Anchors - 11/11/20 03:03 AM

A simple Tool for pulling earth anchors is a common Pick & 12" 2x4
Place end of pick into in-line or end swivel, position 2x4 for a fulcrum to generate upward force and lean Pick back.
If anchor doesn't give, use Pick to loosen ground then pull anchor.

Doesn't take much room in the truck...

Drill along side my anchors with my cordless drill and 2" auger. In most cases I can pull my super stake by hand. If I need more assistance then I use my large framing hammer.

2" dirt hole auger drilled next to the cable.and pull by hand. I have the dirt hole auger with me anyway so don't figure I need to carry something more.

Good idea. I have a square iron tubing puller with a chain hook. 4 out of 5 though I just cut off flush with the ground and leave it in the dirt. Never seems I have enough time to dig them up. And the ground freezes pretty solid and digging/pulling just isn't practical.

Hern, the fastest and easiest way I’ve found to pull super stake earth anchors from unfrozen ground is with a DeWALT drill & a 1½" auger.

Drill down right next to the chain and pull the anchor.

It only takes 6-8 seconds from start to finish; and you’re on to the next trap.

I haven’t picked up a puller since I tried this method for retrieving earth anchors.

I use my drill in unfrozen ground.
I use a pick for frozen ground. 3 or 4 swings near the e/a before trying to pull has worked best for pulling e/a's from frozen ground for me.
I'm switching to all homemade cut and run e/a's.

Use a hammer drill and the winch on my buggy in frozen ground and a homemade puller when not froze.

I do like the auger idea, but I could have issues with rocky soil...

I just use my tile spade. Lay It flat to the ground make a wrap around the handle as close to the metal part and reef up on It. When you run out of lift just lower the shovel and choke up on the trap chain and lift again. If I can't get It out I just cut and go.
In most cases I have my trap chain hooked up to my anchor with a quick link so In most cases I just remove the quick link and I'm gone.

I use a square tubing puller, works well most the time they come out of the ground no problem though sometimes they do break off when pulling if they get caught on something below ground like a root or rock

I use my 2012 Tacoma 4x4 to pull my traps up with. I have # 7 chain welded to Fox Hollow bullet type anchors . Josh on here = Fur Shed Fabrications made them for me. Been running them for 5 year plus almost year round. IF I could not drive my truck up to where I would be trapping. I would use Saber Tooth drag and 8 ft of chain. IF neither are an option for you = No Bs had a puller , a friend of mine has one. Its supper heavy duty. Cost is only down side. 99 dollars shipped. But it will pull anything . Stakes ,chains, or cables

We use the winch on my brothers honda pioneer 700. Granted we dont gethave rocky ground or deal with frozen dirt though. And it usually starts raining on opening day and rains straight through till beaver and otter closes at the end of March.

I just use a pry bar to loosen up the top 6-8" of soil then tap the trap chain around the pry bar with one end one the ground and pull. Always come up so far and dosen't take long.
