Give it a couple days, you’ll either catch a canine, or a canine will show you exactly where the trap should have been.

I don't think that right or left matters much. I make that decision based on set location. As far as distance back from the hole, I do fox bout 4-5". Yotes at bout 8". I use the width of my hand. 1 for fox and 2 for yote. If you don't know what is going to show up, I split the difference. As far as left or right, I do bout 2" on fox and Yote, Mabe 3-4".

Don’t over think it. Each situation will be slightly different from the last one, so don’t get bogged down with exact inches. Most important thing is find something that works for you, then like bob said watch the tracks, make minor adjustments then repeat (until an ol yote throws you a curve ball lol). Good luck, and remember have fun with it!!!

I posted on another thread recently. Drill a hole and set a trap! Don’t get hung up on measuring stuff. Take your hand and make a fist extend your pinky and thumb. That is a good place to start from the mouth of the hole to the center of the pan. If it’s 2” longer don’t worry. Bed the trap good and blend. Get to the next set. Good luck and post some pics.

Put the trap where you want to and make him step where you want him to.
