Help needed Duke 110 trigger - 05/02/21 08:28 PM

Just purchased some Duke 110's for rats. The dog is contacting the trigger and will not engage the trap jaw enough to stay set. I have looked everywhere I can think of and cannot find how to adjust the trigger bracket so that the dog will sit down further on the trap jaw. Any help would be appreciated.

That's the dog. My problem is only sitting down part way before contacting the trigger and is not far enough down to hold on to the trap jaw.I need to somehow deepen the trigger slot so that the dog sits far enough down to make good contact with the trap jaw. It's hitting the trigger before it can. I can't make the cutout in the dog shallower as the condition would still exist. In other words when set there is a big gap in the rounded dog groove when it is all the way down hitting the trigger.

Might need you to post some pics of whats going.

Off the top of my head though, you might want to clean up the sides of the dog to make sure there isnt a burr or something sticking out thats preventing the dog from sitting lower on the jaw. Make sure the notches of the dog are wide enough to accept the jaws as I've seen some traps where the notches werent wide enough and were touchy buggers. Then look at the notch in the trigger brackets and make sure they are clean and wide enough apart to allow the dog to engage fully.

Deepen the trigger slot by squeezing in a vise or smashing with a hammer.
Elongating it more.
Someone here has a vid, easier than trying to type how.

I'm sure he would, he's a really good guy.... BUT it would be just completely ridiculous to bother him with a very minor trap adjustment.

If that doesn't work (and it should), pull off the trigger and file the notch a little deeper and re-install it. It's a 5min. fix at the most.

Whats Bill gonna do, come out and fix it for him LOL .He should fix the problem at the factory. I had 6 dozen brand new dukes with faulty triggers the 5 minute fix turns into hours.....I just sold them and bought real traps and never looked back.

I got it figured out. Turns out of 8 1/2 dozen there were only a couple. The first one I pulled out of the box was like that. I just squeezed it my linemans and everything was fine. I needed to flare the triggers anyway so the back side makes good contact with the dog. Thanks for the advice guys. Working on setting up some Duke 1 1/2 coils now for rats. Putting WildRiver pans on and adjusting them.

I have never encountered the problem you mention. Usually, it's the other way. Trap has a sloppy trigger and won't fire.

Todd's video offers the best tuning tip I've seen to date for the Duke 110's.

The other thing I eventually learned to do when finding faults was to set the dog on the jaws without the clip. If the dog fits and it holds, the place to look for problems is the trigger clip. A lot of the tuning advice folks mention starts out fiddling with the dog, but most of the problems and solutions I've found are on the clip side.
