Hmmm... good question! For some reason when I read this little article a could hear his voice narrating it.

Last I heard he bought a radio station in MT.

I heard the same thing,didn't know if it was true.That was a few decades ago

Met him once at a Montana trapper's rondy in Lewiston,
Had a bunch of stuff he was selling.
Nothing I wanted.
Was good to met him.

This is true, and he is doing very well for himself...Was a fellow student with him at the 1985 FTA trappers college.

The college that year was near my home, so we left the group one night and he taught me how to howl coyotes, that experience lit a life-long fire, and got me into predator hunting.

In 1986, He gave a demo on coyote trapping at the Montana Rendezvous in Lewistown, MT.

It was back when about 100 people would follow Leon Vanek out to a ranch outside of town, and we'd set traps and watch demos. The good ol' days I guess you'd call them.

Anyway, someone asked him if he reset 'circles'

He didn't know what a 'circle' was. It was obvious watching his demo that he had NO clue, and he bedded and covered his trap 90% of the way before he put a pan cover on. The trap wouldn't go off when he stepped on it.

I was standing there, and watched him try to fake his way through it.

He went on to become VP of the Association I believe, maybe even President!

He was around for a few years, then drifted off eventually.

I heard that he went on to produce/film car commercials or something.

Good reminder that there are con men even amongst us trappers

Funny how the wheat separates from the chaff eventually. I always wonder the background on some of the new "big names" you see in this industry.

Since I haven't talked to Jeff in 36 years, this thread made me curious and I started researching......Looks like he is past owner of Z100 and KYLT radio stations in Missoula, MT.

Also owned some magazines, and is the current owner of Montana SEO Services, LLC.

So, if this is the guy we are talking about, he's probably not to worried about trapping anymore, sounds like he could buy any of us several times over, Lol.

He use to have Labrador dog's and trian , breed , show them.
Was pretty good at it, seen him twice at billings metra.
Sportsman show or Rockies show, high dollar dogs.
Too rich for this dude, but awesome dog's.

His ad in the top post said he was working on writing a beaver book - does anyone knows if he ended up writing it or not?
