#11 dls double jaw vs single jaw

It sounds like #11s are great for coon. If I wanted to get some of these traps, would it be worthwhile to get a double-jawed version? Is double-jaw on a #11 redundant, as the jaw spread is fairly small anyways? Would you want center or side swiveled? Any downsides to the double-jaw?

If you want to take numbers of coons use DPs.

Both styles are great traps.No.11's are like little bull dogs.I really don't think it makes a hill of beans of difference where the chain is located,some may disagree.

For water sets I have used single jaw #11's as there is always a potential for a beaver front foot catch. Also like the the single jaw for trail sets where BG's are limited in size. When using baited dryland sets I used the double jaw 11's for many years and took dogs, coyotes, & fox unintentionally in coon sets. I even cut the pan down on some ``'s to assure a center coon foot catch. Dp's are excellent in many situations but limited in their specie diversity. my take ....................... the mike

They are not as species specific as dog proofs. They do hold tight. I don’t worry about double jaws on #1 sized traps, but others might. I don’t worry about where the chain is attached at all.

11s will hold anything that gets in them. They were my coon workhorse for many years. Ive held beaver, coyotes, bobcats, fox, badger, coon (fron or back foot) and everything in between. Tenacious holding power.
Double jaw probably not necessary woth the small jaw spread for sure...but the stiffer double jaws don't bend when you got a coyote or beaver in one either.
DPs are OK, fast and easy to set, but miss a lot of coon in them. Had them go right by a DP under their nose on a trail only end up in a 160 or foothold a little ways down same trail. A 160 will tell you what direction they just came from.
Need a variety of coon tools to clean up coon at a location especially problem coon. Right tools for right job always...but variety of sets and baits or blind sets will show you quickly what you have been missing if you are a DP only guy. Long liners running only DPs are numbers deal and playing the odds over many locations keeps the numbers up. Also keeps it fast and efficient, but they would admit they miss some at those locations but its an acceptable % to keep things humming in spirit of efficiency. Go in fast, easy to bait, low key, and big number type of set DPs can be. If you are running a smaller line like I do you need variety at your locations to maximize your results if the populations are there st those locations to be had.

I think 11's would hold an elephant if it was staked down enough. Always stake for the toughest & biggest critter on your line cause an 11 will hold whatever gets in it. Caught otters & beaver on muskrat sets, just make sure your staking system will hold. I love 11's.

Pocket sets with those 11s will out perform DPs. I don't think it matters where the chain is attached, but I'd add a swivel to the middle of the chain if there isn't one already.

Only problem with the STAMPED double jaws is that it the jaws will deform over time. I was going through some 1.5 duke double jaws that are stamped and found several where the jaws were deformed.

I dont think the stamped double jaws are worth a darn for reducing chewing to start with anyways.
