110 body grip trap - 06/03/22 02:24 PM

Is this trap actually strong enough to dispatch a muskrat
or does it just hold the muskrat until it drowns.

I don't know the answer to you question but, why buy 110's when 120's are a more versatile trap that will definitly do the job on rats as well as marten and mink?

Cant ever remember a muskrat moving the trap from where it was set. Only time I ever had it fail to dispatch an animal was a mink tried to go through a 150 at the farthest point away from the springs. Head caught and was still alive.

Unless you do a lot of dryland trapping, double spring bodygrips arent a time efficient trap for muskrats and mink. Under ice is a bit different if your doing baited sets.

I don't understand your comment. Could you please elaborate?

You dont want to be setting hundreds of 120s on the line everyday of your running a major line, if anyone has big lines they can run 110 on any more. Sure you can preset the initial traps at home to save time but resetting half of em or more every day will kill your hands.

Under ice baited sets are easy with double springed bgs because you dont need to mess with stabilizers keep your trap at the right height and not spinning.

Don't have marten here and have caught too many mink to count in 110's
Muskrats are always dead and mink are dead with with the right trigger configuration for the set. I do have 120's but don't have much call for them, although I do use them in my mink boxes in the winter. 110's for me are lighter to carry and pack and do the job.
Used 110's are also very cheap and in abundance. Sure wish I had marten to trap though

Rats die quick in a 110.

I have used the 110 on dry land for mink and they have dispatched mink quickly. Never looks like they fought the trap much.

The dbl sprung BGs are much easier to stabilize.

I have three 110s that I bought new in the late seventies
and the springs were questionable so I looked at a new
one yesterday and the ones I have definitely need new springs.

My wife had red squirrels pulling her sunflower seedlings so I put a baited box with peanut butter bait and a 110 guarding the entrance. Next morning had a very large and very dead raccoon caught around the throat.... Pretty sure they kill muskrats quickly with the proper strike.

I dont know of anybody around here that uses 120s for muskrats or anything for that matter. Most of my 110s are 25+ years old and I dont have any problems.

I have some old 110 from the 1960s when they first come out that I use on covered rat floats. They still kill rats deader than a doornail

Muskrats are pretty frail in the scheme of life. They were engineered as food for predators. They make up for it with rabbit-like reproductive capabilities.
A little known fact: They don't sneeze. Too risky to cause a concussion. (I made that up, but they are frail.)
