Cheapest place to buy traps - 07/06/22 09:28 PM

Looking for suggestions on cheapest places to buy traps and/or supplies. Been buying from F&T mostly but was wondering what other places there was. Thanks.

I think trap prices will be almost comparable between
Trapping supply businesses, the shipping can be the difference.

But the cheapest place to buy is at the trapping conventions
No shipping cost.

If you are bored, Google Coon Creek Trappers- it’s located in Tionesta, PA. Not sure about their shipping rates, but their “per trap” cost is lower than almost anywhere I look.

MTP…I compare prices and shipping and MTP had beat everyone out there. The only time I go somewhere else is if I’m looking for something they don’t have.

Are you only looking at new traps or would you buy used traps. Many times those selling used traps have their traps marked up pretty high but there maybe more "wiggle" room . Used traps are typically available at almost any rendezvous be that district, state or national. There are millions of used traps scattered all over the country and a high number of those have not been used much the last 20 years or so.

F& t has more oil [ fixatives] then Minnesota otherwise they have the same price for traps . F& T shipping is faster and Minnesota is closer
penock is maybe 6hrs away and last time it took 3 days!!.

I’ve never had an issue with either or actually any trapper as far as delivery time as an issue.

As far as being 6hrs away, your location is like mine. To Mail my son a package across the street, it leaves my house, goes to Sylvester, then to Albany, then to Tallahassee Fl, then back to Albany, and back to Sylvester to be delivered to his house. So yeah, about 3 days, lol.

I don't know where you are in mo but you can get some good deals on used traps from Miller fur company in Clarksville missouri. He also stocks new traps.

Shoot your not to far then. Depending what your looking for he might have some nice used ones I'm about 20 minutes from him and i go there 3 or 5 times a season for small stuff and I always dig through the used traps. If you go there make sure you pick up some of the beaver bait he makes.

Miller Fur would be my first stop close as you are. Doren will treat you right. I’ve bought LOTS of new and used traps from Doren. Sold him a few too. Doren and Lynn are good people.

Any of the big trap supply dealers will be within 5% of eachother. Not even worth nickel and diming to find the cheapest.

Lots of local fur buyers sell supplies also. Fur buyers are going to have a tough time this year, By supporting a local fur buyer when acquiring your supplies might just keep them in business. Without them you may have to drive a lot farther to sell your fur next year. With the high cost of fuel it could cost you quite a bit more to sell your fur without a local buyer. Also the trappers who sell on the carcass could really be hurting without a local buyer.
Paying a little more could pay off in the long run.
Just something to consider.

x2 Developing a strong relationship with a local seller is more important that saving a few dollars. With high operating costs and low fur prices I would think there are going to be a lot of people getting out of trapping over the next few years. Many fur buyers by up whole trapping collections and then resell them.
