trappers bender info - 08/08/22 05:37 PM

Hello,
wondering if anyone has any info on the trappers bender tool.

I'm referring to the Sterling Fur trappers bender, not the Bob Custer's trappers bender.

I received instructions with it, that were illegible. I'm looking for more clear instructions, and/or videos on how to use this tool.

I understand how to make swivels with it, but it claims to make deer stops, snare supports and whammy's. The pictures and descriptions are difficult to read.

anyone have any experience with this bender? and how to use it?

Thanks

To make the whammies, snare supports. deer stops, you run your wire through one of the two holes in the top and place the rod with the pull loop through the other hole. Bend your wire in an L so the winding bar can grab it and just turn it till you run out of your L,

For deer stops you dont need the bender. Just grab the end of the wire with a pair of needle nose pliers and roll your wrist till the wire is in a C shape. Ill put a video up on whammies this evening if someone doesnt find a link to one

Done that, nothing is available about that bender. Which is why i posted the question. Can't seem to find help anywhere on this thing.

There are plenty of videos on the Bob Custer type bender, but not this one.

Apparently my fur shed was too hot for my phone to record videos tonight, will try to do it tomorrow.

Frankly, the rod is the wrong size to make whammies. At least ones that work like the commercially available ones. Can always just crush the whammy onto the cable when you put it on your snare support. Just need to use 11gauge or lighter wire...dont think you want to be crushing 9ga whammies in the field...

Try clear plastic tube for your whammys, I personally LOVE it!

You would be better off using rubber gas line. It holds good and dosen't get hard In cold weather.

I still want to know how my tool works. Wire whammys are just easier for me.

I had those directions on my welding table because I was making swivels and it caught fire.
