What did you do trapping related today

Got a dozen bridger number 2 dogless tuned up and rigged with wolf fangs. Season can't come fast enough!

Nothing yet, still at work day dreaming of things I need to get done.

Unloading the truck and trailer after the NC Convention this weekend. Maybe 1/2 done.

Set traps. Caught 1 coyote. Made a list of things I need to do OR buy before I head to West/Central Texas for 2 months of trapping in sheep country

Caught a young female yote, cleaned and prepped another dozen traps for next ranch on the 2nd. of Oct.

Finished up some Maine legal lynx exclusion devices and a couple weasel boxes and put tags on a couple new marten traps

Went through a couple dozen traps. Tuned, tagged, and attached some anchors I bought recently.

Ordered a 2 gallon bucket of muskrat meat. Scouted a new property I’m taking on.

Set up my skinning/fleshing/trap mod desk up out in the garage and organized a few totes.

Cleaning out 7km of logging road.
Trapped out about 2 dozen beaver from 5 or 6 spots about a month ago.
They sent in an excavator and cleaned up the ditches.
Beaver activity at 2 of the spots,so I am basically mopping up now.
I will take a few pics next run up there in a couple days.

Looked underneath a few bridges today. Saw some coon sign but no mink sign

Tuned up a dozen new ALPHA'S, added super stakes and tags. Then dyed and waxed them. Will wrap them up and put them in totes after supper. Organized and cleaned up my fur shed.

Got the prototype put together.The rebar works great for pinching against the spring eyes-rock solid.

Walked some properties looking for sign/potential setup locations. More of a leisurely stroll with scouting added in means the fall weather finally came

Checked traps. Coon & coyote. No catches today

Made the drive north. Tomorrow fly in to the cabin until Christmas

I trapped. Does that count?

Went to a few yard and estate sales. Got some good deals on traps

Painted and hung to dry 5 doz CR

Caught 2 coons and a coyote this morning.

I accepted an invitation from a fellow trapper to attend Minktoberfest with him next week.

Waxed some extra traps this morning

Powers washed 24 mb 550’s and 12 drags with chains. Let them dry and dipped in bullet proof. Drying in the sun now. Ordered 100 wolf fangs and 500ft of 1/8 cable and 300 double crimps and 2 dz coyote snares. I should be good to go. I still need to build 12 snare supports.

Got a few things together for my mink demo next Friday at the Illinois convention

I finished the inside of my new to me trap shed. Now all of my gear has its own place that doesn’t include piles.

I made some anchor cables for my CRs. I also asked the question if deer trails are good places to set for coon.

I am sure they are running the same trails. Stick a camera on a good deer trail. You might be surprised.i would stick to dp's if it's a heavy deer trail.

I did the same exact thing a few months ago, I need to get some rat traps though.

Did a little scouting on the river. Found beaver rat and coon sign. Now hoping we get a little rain between now and the season. It's not fun dragging bottom most the way.

I set some gopher traps and some live traps for skunks. Neighbor called to report a roadkill skunk in front of his place. Got an ounce of quill off of him. Furs looking better every week!

Blocked a bunch of tanned fur so it holds its shape better and looks nicer. Makes a big difference in appearance to prospective buyers.

Been raining and blowing all day as Ian is moving my way so good day to be inside.

Made my patented triggers for some Ram snares. Dipped some 1.75's, and collected/gathered some odd ball Herters to put in the basement...................... the mike

Made sever 100 red tipped bamboo 32 inch marking sticks. In West Texas It is very hard to hang = flagging tape. Cows eat it. And no trees to hang it on. Dont like laying it on ground. So. I walk strait across from trap a couple of years. And stick this in ground

Set some gopher traps and started trapping mice for bait.

Spent 2 hours setting pan tension on 12 traps. Thank God I’m not a long liner!

Seriously though, I have a half dozen MB650s and they were giving me fits. Would be 3# one set, then next try wouldn’t even stay set. Finally realized there’s just enough slop in the pan bolt that setting past the night latch, then bringing the pan down, was important to taking up that slop, versus setting directly on the night latch. Then they were great. That little bit of slop means almost no pan tension in that first 1/8th inch of pan travel. Most of you probably knew that.
Also noticed my ~7 year old laminated 650s have a vertical dog, but my newer cast 650s have a horizontal dog. The horizontal dog traps seemed to be easier to adjust and more consistent. I’m curious why the two versions of the MB650s have different dogs, if anyone knows?

No idea. My 750s have the horizontal dog, while my 650s both laminated and cast jaw have the vertical dog. I liked the vertical dog better but don't think it really makes a difference. I've had a wolf bend the horizontal dog on a 750 so I had to bend around on it with pliers to reset. But woofs are pretty hard on dogs of any design. I've had them bend the rod on a 750 so they have to be replaced also.

Picked up a few pocket gophers today and one skunk. Have an order for a few put up skunk tails for fly tying. Shouldn't take long to fill this order the way things are going this week.

Repaired a weasel box run over by a snowmobile last winter. Adjusted pans on my coilsprings to "minkerize" them.

Painted 2 dz snares and walked around our duck pond picking up feathers for bobcat flagging. Ended up with about 50 feathers 10 to 12” long.

Now don’t laugh but worked on this early this morning. My coon stuff is now officially locked and loaded, ready for Dec. 1st start.
Bucket of 160s cabled to stands, check.
Crate of DPs with berk cable anchors attached, traps waxed, check.
Container of dry cat food with molasses mixed in for DP bait, check.





3s and 2s ready to go, same Dec. 1 start date. Might be a few other sizes and models in here too. Got one beaver spot so thus the 330 in back. Check.
Also bundle of #9 stiff wire for snare supports all ready too, check.





And because I didn’t have much time to put up enough waxed dirt this summer, one excellent dude on this forum by handle of Coyote Chaser sold me and was awesome enough to deliver to my house these two filled to the brim buckets of the good stuff. Thank you sir!!!

Most land animals open 10/25. Water 11/1. Early for prime. Plus my boys are deer hunting my property and neighbors (800 acres). I haven’t done a darn thing. So there! Busy getting 7 cord of wood in cellar plus 5 cord in sugar house. Standard cord. So there! lol

Why the single trap if you don't mind me asking? We've always ran 2 traps on one.

Youth Trapper, I was just figuring out a pattern for them. I need rough cut lumber so I have room for the chain under the trap. And there will be 2 traps on a 36" 2X6, these are for moving water.

Did some ADC work today. A bit early than I like but it needs to be done.

Nice, I usually just set them right on top of the board but I also don't have moving water. I just use 2 2x4 at 24" and a 1x12/1x13 at 24" and set the trap between the two upright 2x4s and those have worked well.

Released ANOTHER bear. I can’t wait for them to go to sleep.

Gonna be a bit yet. Lol. Hopefully you have to wait at least a week, since I got bear hunters to guide this week. After the 9th though I hope it is bedtime for them.

Put some trap tags on some new steel today.

Went to the Cabin,cleared some trai,put up a bit of dry wood,scouted a bit for beaver,and shot a few grouse.

Had to move traps out of the flower bed so the wife could put down pine straw.

Made a few more beaver boards from some plywood the neighbor gave me. Some friends stopped by to drop of some traps that have been hanging in their shed for quite awhile and thought I could put them to use. Spent a few hours going through the pile this evening.

Any good finds? On the other hand, I put about 3-4 ft of chain on all of my muskrat footholds, scouted out the slough I'm starting on and found a few feed beds and huts.

scouted a bit. Put up some nice fat bullheads. Of course wife and I caught a mess of perch and gills for dinner. Still tomatoes in garden. Heaver frost should come soon!

Did find a few collectors but mostly users #0 & #1 LS.

Nice, I was prepping 5 dozen 1.5-#2 coils today for rat season which is in 3 weeks, and found a Montana 1.5 special. Never seen one before so safe to say it's going on the wall.

Bought a new grade A 8” hardwood fleshing beam.
Used to have an 8” and a 6” and have no idea what happened to them over the years. Got a Wiebe knife to go with it too.

Redoing all the flagging and flags on my bamboo stakes for rat trapping in 12 days. The weather is hard on the flagging. Especially during the winter when the flagging is cold and the wind blows.

Wednsday-Friday will be some prospecting. Not much sign as of yet.

Visited some properties to see what crops were still on and where was or wasn’t mowed. Also threw in a number of pre bait holes with deep fryer grease to see what might dig at it before season opens in 2 weeks.

Whent and surveyed one rd on my private line no beaver on a 6 km rd make me think die off due to disease. There was lots last winter and I did not trap them all.
