Anyone use one of these out on the trap line for driving earth anchors or drilling dirt holes?

Got it. A hammer drill. I know of others that do.

I just bought a flex 24v drill just for dirtholes and trap beds. The drill itself holds up just fine and holds a charge all day. Haven't tried it as a driver though.

The problem is finding a auger that'll hold up. Less than six months on this bit and it is so dull and worn it just spins on clay.

I am having a problem with drills myself. Went threw 2 so far in 1 month in Texas pre drilling holes. Using = 20 volt Dewalts. Atomic Going to have to find something better. Keep stripping

I've never cared for Dewalt anything.

But it came from their saws. Ten years running framing crews and I'm a saw man by choice. Ten years of my personal makita going strong while burning up two to three Dewalt a year and none holding a square foot much longer than a week.

Milwaukee made a better circular saw but still not up to a Marita of the time. Their drills and Sawzall set the standard at that time.

Can't say on current other than I got a dead makita saw that I bought to replace the old one.

I did alot of looking and review reading before going with the flex.

I was leaning ridgid but they seem to have cheapened their parts and shorted their warranty.

Milwaukee still looks good. But the specs on the flex were better.

So far so good.

Warrior. On drill # 5 for the year. YES. I am ruff on drills. Dewalts. Atomic. Is about 70 dollars Ebay. But. I sware they seam to be getting cheaper. 1 didnt last. = 100 drill holes in Texas sand ! It has a bad trigger. Have to = pull trigger several times. Before it works.

Should I just buy = M18 Milwaukee for 250??? Need good drill. I nees best drill They make. What is best??

Don't know. Been out of the trades for twenty years. Those are the guys that will know. Back then the best drills were Milwaukee then Makita but those were corded. Ridgid was coming on strong with batteries.

Those were the three I looked at first when I went looking.

Most of the pros use Milwaukee with a fair sprinkling of Makitas in my experience. Dewalts are very popular for home use but you don't see many yellow drills on the job site. I've never been impressed with Dewalt quality myself for most of their products. Milwaukee has a great reputation and I really like their saws, I've never owned one of their drills, but a lot of pros use them. Their price is sure steep though.

Milwaukee is the best! Well worth the $250 the warranty on the tools and batteries is why the tools cost what they do but you can’t beat the warranty compared to others! They offer some pretty good battery rebates sometimes too. Have to check with the dealer on what current deals they have with the purchase of your drill.

Can't use a Dewalt (or any HD) Hammer Drill after freeze-up but for early fall trapping it works OK here. I use an SDS Rotary Hammer when the frost goes over 2" and I wore out a Dewalt R H in 2 years of hard chipping trap beds and drilling pilot holes (not impressed). You may have soil that doesn't freeze like concrete in December so your Hammer Drills may work fine in the South. See a lot of Milwaukee but no experience with them. Try a Hilti if you want the best. Milwaukee is good and has a good warranty, but you will probably use it if you run it hard. Just my opinion.

Get yourself a Milwaukee rotary hammer drill. They are tough and can serve several different functions. I have a chisel bit for digging trap beds in frozen ground, a 1in masonry bit for pre-drilling earth anchors. The inch bit also makes a good mouse hole.. I also have a ground rod driver for driving in earth anchors. I don't drill a hundred dirtholes a day, but I've given it a good workout for 6 years. Remarkably easy on batteries. I can't imagine trapping in the winter without it, its a game changer.

Sounds like M18 Milwaukee will work. For 250. I can get drlll charger and 2 batteries. Can get = Bare tool for 99 on ebay. I have a habit or ALWAYS bringing 2 or 3 of everything. Check this out. Came to Texas. 3 drills. 0ne was clicking. Expected it to go out. It did. 4 th trap set Second drill. Bout 100 sets latter. It strips out. Works. But not in low gear. 3 rd drill. New in plastic. Ebay. Bare tool. Atomic Dewalts. Right out of plastic. 20 sets. Trigger problems. Limping it around 90 more sets. So it may dy soon. Hope to make it home Dec 22 nd. SO. Buy Milwaukee?

I use a lot of Milwaukee M12 and M18 tools.
5 year warranty.
I have tools 20 years old still going strong.
2 hammer drills dropped in 2017 in a beaver swamp.
Rinsed out the muck and let dry for 2 weeks.
New batteries and they have been fine.
Look at M18 1/2” hammer drill.
They make at least 2 models.
Get the one with the most torque.
I buy Reconditioned or Refurbished at a big savings.
Cannot ever tell they are not original new.
No markings on the box or tool.
Look at Acme tool.
Make sure the side handle is included.
I buy generic batteries on eBay or Amazon.
Just as good for 25% of Milwaukee batteries.

I do a lot of bridge work so tools are constantly around water, mud, dirt and freezing conditions. During a hard rain or snow with Milwaukee you may need to dry them out but they almost always bounce right back and if they don’t inside of 5 years just send it out with the dealer and they replace it no questions asked. I think you’ll be happy with them!
