Here if a conibear is larger than 5 1/2” it must be recessed or elevated. Will a cat commit to a 160 or is a 220 better?

Sorry to confuse issue. Realize 160 is 6x6 but trap would be recessed or elevated. My issue is cost difference.

Of course a 220 would be better if legal for you. My research indicated a 160 cubby can work though, & I intend to try some for my upcoming cat season. Our law requires 160s in most situation though, instead of 220s.
If using the 160 cubby near the ground I'd try to make it at their head height-- that's what I've heard anyway--I'd have to check the law on that.
A 220 RBG might be best if you can afford them. Consider using a pan on your trigger.

I’ve caught some nice bobcats in both blended, grassy trail set 160s and 220s set for raccoons. My triggers for sets like that tend to be one wire straight down, tight to the side jaw while the other wire runs along the top jaw.

What makes me appreciate bobcats every time I catch one in a blended trail set 160 or 220 is the fact that even at their size, they still get down to that level to stalk their prey. They could have stepped or jumped over, but they chose to stay on the trail hunting.

What I described isn’t a cubby, but I can tell you that in my experience bobcats don’t have a problem committing to a gap that size when they want to. I would use I \ wires or pans to make it appear open.

If I knew I were setting bodygrips for bobcats, I’d go with 220s or 280s if I could.

Talked to a guy from Minnesota at a National that had many pics of large cats in 160’s he caught in boxes. I was impressed.

There's a very good cat trapper on this site that has stated multiple times it makes no difference between a 220 and a 160 for cats.

Totally agree, when i lived in MN i set both sizes, if you get them that interested they will go in either. BTW biggest cat I ever caught was in a old square jaw victor 120 in a newspaper tube, he just wanted the beaver meat really bad
