The Albino Coon - 01/30/23 10:56 PM

Every year I catch at least one Albino Coon down along the river. Today was the day this year!!!!! Is this pretty common in anyone else’s area as well?

My taxidermist seemed to think they are pretty rare but said I may be able to catch more in the same location.

Killbuck a Silver coon or an Albino?

Re: The Albino Coon - 02/04/23 07:52 PM

Only albino or off color I ever saw was a white woodchuck. Too bad it was road pizza and unsalvageable

There's likely pretty good demand in the taxi circles! Put them up and sell on the shed.

Re: The Albino Coon - 03/11/23 07:11 AM

I’ve never seen one other than photos. Several years ago I saw a photo online of a guy (I think he was a hound hunter) with the mounts of an albino raccoon and an almost jet black raccoon next to each other. It was a pretty cool comparison!

That silver raccoon is absolutely wild! I’ve never seen or heard of one like it. Please post a photo of the mount when you get it back!

Congrats on some great catches!

Keystonekiller,

Please forgive my ignorance, but I’m curious about the fisher coon. I’ve just not heard that term before. I’m an amateur and am still trying to learn so I’d appreciate any info.

Re: The Albino Coon - 03/11/23 01:49 PM

No worries ...has to do with color just mean black coon
Posted By: MTbadgerdad

Re: The Albino Coon - 03/11/23 02:57 PM

Ah, that makes sense. I appreciate the info very much! Are they very common in your area? We have a ridiculous number of coins but I’ve never seen or heard of anything but standard, expected color.

Animal anomalies fascinate me.

Re: The Albino Coon - 03/18/23 01:15 AM

Dad got a white one on a game camera several years ago but not sure it was albino

Never heard of a silver coon before, I would have had it mounted too

Caught another one today in a beaver drowning set. Pretty muddy in the pic but a white one none the less. Unfortunately this one has a spot of fur up around one front shoulder that is missing. Not sure if I’m gonna be able to do anything with him. Got him hanging to dry to se what it is gonna look like.

Alive in the trap would have made a much better pic

Agreed. I took a video of him on Marco Polo but forgot to take a picture.

Re: The Albino Coon - 03/20/23 03:35 PM

Pretty cool. Looks like you found a melanistic family.
Wonder if you'll see some next year or next litter too?

Who is this roadkill monitor^^^^? I guess it must be an issue in other states, folks posting roadkill pickups as trap catches? Not a common issue in Wyoming I don't think.

Here’s an alive and in the trap pic for Dixie…my coons aren’t white though.

There is plenty more Albinos around. These four coons were all caught on four different farms

Nice, but don’t you hate those climbers.
I use a fence staple to prevent that, depending on the tree bark type.

Caught #5 today!!!!! That makes the most I’ve caught in one season. This farm is 3 miles up the river from where I caught the last one.
