TEpnw, nice catches. looks like you have come up with a system to make those little koro traps work on the marten. Do you get a lot of refusals? Is that why you pre bait?

Hey Mark! I haven’t seen many refusals even with those small traps. I like the pre baits because to get to good marten country I have to drive a long ways. It’s nice knowing that when I set traps on an active bait I’ll have action pretty soon.

OK, I understand now. I was afraid you where having trouble getting them to commit too entering the smaller koro trap boxes!
I made some mink boxes open on one end and wire mesh on the other end. Just slide the koro rat trap in the open end of box, fit really nice. For some reason the mink would not enter the box? 20 boxes X 10 days. Fish paste for bait. I will keep working on it.
When the weather gets a little warmer I will try some pocket sets with those koro traps. It should work better for mink and muskrat. I sure do miss using my 110's & #1stoplose traps!!

Thanks Boco. Mark I’ve also had trouble catching mink in them but not sure what the issue is. Shoot me a message if you have any luck with the pocket sets. That’s something I might try.

Do you ever worry about your trapped marten being preyed upon being that close to the ground ?

The only thing I worry about is varmints clipping the fur. But on a short check it hasn’t been much of an issue for me.

Good catches ! I too trap marten with the koro here in Washington and I never have refusal in my boxes but I do hang my boxes high and adjust as the snow level rises . You going to be at the spring fur sale ?

Hey Jake, yep I follow your marten thread on Hunting Washington! You’ve been having a good season. Nope I won’t be, I’m going to the ITA sale in Glenn’s Ferry, Idaho. Do you sell your marten at the WSTA sale?
