Planning for next year. Is the 5x5 large enough? They can be used here legally with bait on ground.

Yes the 5x5 is more than enough for fisher but I think it might be a bit small for bobcat.

I used some RBGs 155s for wood chucks and I had quite a few live chucks. I wouldn't be using a 155 for cats.
In what kind of sets are you going to use them?

Wooden cubbies but the more I think about it was probably a dumb question. I was trying to go with what’s legal here in NY. on ground. Go with 220’s and longer cubby.

When trapping cats In cubbies and 220s do you have to have them elevated? And how far back In the cubby does the 220 have to be?

Yes I use an old rough saw 2x4 under the entrance. Limit on ground is nothing larger than 5x5 unless the opening is limited to 6”. Other than that trap mus be recessed 18”. This is using bait.

Might be a bit tough to get a cat to commit to that sized opening. A good dirt hole would probably be a better choice when trapping cats.

I agree which is why if I I want to go with 220’s the opening will be 8x8.

I have good success on fisher with them. But never had a cat stick his head in one. I do catch them in 160s and 220s almost equally. I run mostly 155 for marten and fisher. My conclusion is the 5x5 is just to small.

I learned you can never say never about trapping. You couldn't have got me to bet one cent that you could catch any bobcat in a 155, BUT I caught a 32# tom in one marten trapping. What a surprise! Had to cut the jaws to get it out of trap even when thawed. That cat barely moved after it pulled back out of cubby tube before it expired.

I dont know what a 155 is but I have caught a few cats in 120's by the head-couple big ones too-all lights out.No struggle.
I would never set a bodygip smaller than a 280 on purpose for cats.Too many refusals.

Boco - 155 is a double springed 5x5 jaw, in between 120 and 160 size. 150 is a single spring.

I have caught plenty in 160's set for civets. Some by the paw, some by the head. If the bait is real close to the triggers usually they're neck caught. (I'm using these MB skunk-killer 160's with the extra kill bar).
