Jon boat handles for stand up running - 04/29/23 05:23 PM

I have a Scavenger motor and used to stand up and run it in the Jon boat. Not as quick or sure footed as I used to be. Need an idea of building a stand up cross bar or handle and how to attach to the sides of boat. Anyone have anything fixed up like this? A pic would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had an electrician bend a full 10 foot piece of 1 inch conduit in a U shape, about 16 inches wide, i took 2 pieces of angle iron and screwed it to 2 ribs on bottom of boat. Hand 2 pieces of pipe(or square tube) 4 inches long for U to slide into. I held my hand and stood where I would be running my boat, then measured the height of my hand off the angle and cut the U to that height. Weld 4 inch pieces to angle where you want to hold the handle. I also drilled a hole in the 4 inch pieces for a hood pin to hold the handle in place and be removable. I've also built them with with square Tubing.
