Use a Victorinox knife with a five inch blade. Keep a steel handy to touch it up. Put an old rug over your knee and flesh the hide on your knee. With your left hand wrapped in cloth keep the hide taut and lifted slightly off the rug. If your knife is sharp you can get the job done in less than ten minutes and it will be a clean hide ready to board. I have done hundreds this way and it is the best method I have found with negligible knife scores to the pelts!

If anyone has an easier method I would like to hear it. Double bag and throw in garbage. I've done many beaver this way and I'm certain that the money I made by doing something more profitable than skinning beaver amounts to a small fortune. I have never skinned a beaver and I will never skin another coyote. I have seen some crappy fur in my days but Wisconsin coyote has to rank right near the top.

P.S. Don't get upset. A lot of us ADC guys gave up skinning anything a long time ago.

I still skin out a bunch of beaver, but I could never get the hang of clean skinning.IMO there is no EASY way other than having someone else do it! The way I do it is ,I case skin her, put it on a fleshing beam and go to town with my draw knife, after Im done fleshing I split her.

My son caught this beaver early last season . It stretched out 72" . He only got 12 bucks forit . I was like I would have payed you 12 bucks not to flesh that big grizzlely thing . I like a sharp fleshing knife for beaver and I just shave it off . Try to leave that grizzle infront of that front leg on the carcass . Skin is thin there . If I'm going to damage the hide that's where I doit . Stretching I like nails not staples ,there just more easy to remove for me . Peace brother if you lived closer I would be happy to show you hands on

Skinning beaver is a cinch once you learn the proper tecnique and learn how to properly sharpen a knife.I know a lot of guys that like skinning beaver better than any other furbearer, myself included.

Its not about money, but satisfaction in a job well done and what it represents to me as an all around trapper. For money I would rather skin a 180 dollar marten, but anybody can skin a Marten.
