Bats using ridge vent... Any advice??? - 07/21/12 03:23 AM

There is a small group of bats that are in this customer's attic. They are using a 30' ridge vent over a bedroom and are coming out at different places all of the way down the vent. Does anyone have any advice on how I should go about excluding them?? Drop plastic?

Thanks.

Jason, are you making sure this is not a maternity colony,
or waiting till fall before excluding. Have to ask as many posts
suggest folks are not waiting.

Unless you already know by looking that it is
a bachelor colony.

For an initial exclusion set up for eviction, run and attach backer rod along the raised areas under the ridge vent and leave several vent areas as needed to exclude using what ever eviction devices you have to use or make your own as needed.

Do a watch to determine how big the area is of bat exiting and go from there.I have made large devices on such jobs to funnel down to a single eviction point. I did a photo display of this job a while back on here. Here are a few photos of a similiar job on an old slate roof.

A frame made from lathe wood then cover the frame with weed block type material funneled out at the bottom to a small exit hole. We had several areas of entry/exit so I just did a large exclusion area at several points.Once positioned we attached to exit device with a few screws and duck tape.

Maybe this will give you an idea what you can do.
