Multiple Raccoons in one attic.

Multiple Raccoons in one attic. - 04/30/13 01:51 AM

How common is it?

I have not come across this before.

Yesterday I removed a female raccoon from a positive set. She tore open a roof vent and I set the trap over the hole and caught her the first night. Removed six babies from the soffit with a little work (ok I forgot my sawzall so it was a lot of work) so if those pups were from a different raccoon she had all the time in the world to move them.

Last night they called saying they heard walking around the attic and this morning they had a racoon in their trap on the ground. I sealed the entry hole yesterday and it was still sealed. I figured they heard the one they caught walking around on the roof but opened up the hole (another positive set) and they just called to say I caught another raccoon.

Will find out tomorrow if it is also a nursing female. But this place has no attic so wasn't able to inspect anything from the inside.

How often do you guys find multiple females and/or litters in the same attic?

Haven't seen it in a few years but before that when the coon numbers where much higher it was common . Had this one job guy had these brick pillars holding up his deck every one of them held a batch of coon . I haven't seen it but my buddy tells story's of 4 mother coon with baby's one in each corner . Most I've seen is two batches in one attic .

I had two females in either end of a cathederal ceiling. One had four babies and a week later I took out three from the other side. I'm reasonably sure that these were sisters and were probably born in the same house. Very nice house but the gal who lived there seemed more surprized that my daughter was her daughters' teacher than about 9 raccoons in the same living room ceiling.

I have had more than one female with young in a house, several times. By the way, what's the largest litter you guys have had? I've had 10 once, 9 never, 8 at least twice, and 7 all the time.

My litter experience is 1-5 pups over my years per female.

All I found today was a yard sale of coon pup parts on the roof. Customer thought the coons were mating. Nope momma was fighting and lost.

Had a weird one today. Heavy foreign accent lady calls says she has a coon in her cage on the roof and another coon in her cage on the driveway. One male, one female and a kit stumbling around on the ground. I could not tell if the female was the mother but suspect so. We set a positive cge over the soffit and see what tomorrow brings. The adult male in the cage was smaller than the female.

Removed another double today.

Both females and pups were on opposite sides of a finished ceiling in a basement. These pups were fully mobile and we had a blast chasing them around the ceiling trying to catch them all.

Removed to females and Babys across the street this last week . I could just put the truck in reverse and back up in the other drive way without even turning the wheel . Both houses 4 pitch couldn't really get them in the attic . The baby's and female where all trapped on the roof one at a time oh it's been fun . Think there all gone just need to repair the one hole the first house doesn't wish to fix it right away short on funds they said but plain to later on .
