If we trapped nuisance rats like that here our traps would be gone in a few days. Too many eyes watching from the hills as they say.

Mousie, our ponds tend to be fairly small and two to six 'rats is about it. We use #120 Conibears 95% of the time. We walk the banks and trap the bank dens. I'm sure you do the same. On the big lakes we usually only have permission from the customer and maybe a neighbor, so we trap out the bank dens on their shoreline the same way. I've tried floats and the next muskrat that I catch in one will be the first.

Colonies for bank dens. Only 110's or 120's if I can't get a cage in,

some trappers have ask me what bait i used in the cage traps. i have said it before but will show it again. the bait is carrots from the local grocery store on nails both inside the cage and outside it to draw them in. some muskrat droppings and chopped cattails/grass for extra eye appeal although maybe not needed. no foam is used under the plank just the board itself. a hole with a fiberglass rod or rebar can be used to keep the board in deeper water away from the bank. the trap is wired on.

I prefer colony traps whenever possible.
